BenQ to introduce super-slim phone in Asia

BenQ has never really been known for its stylish handset designs or, for that matter, slim phones. But it seems that the company is looking to change that impression with its upcoming T60 mobile phone.

Initially, the most striking thing about the T60 is its profile. It measures less than 9 millimeters thick (0.35 inches), which makes it one of the thinnest handsets in the market today besides the Samsung Ultra Edition phones.

However, what really captured our attention was the T60's beautifully crafted design. Its glossy stainless-steel back plate combined with smooth curves and a minimalist button … Read more

Big-screen, short-throw BenQ projector

Are you always straining your eyes at puny projections in meetings? Now you can go big-screen in style with BenQ's MP771 multimedia projector. The leather-clad light cannon is a jewel in tight quarters, capable of casting a generous 74-inch presentation from a mere 3-foot throw distance.

And it's bright, too, at 3,000 lumens. Designed for interactive whiteboards and even bare walls, the MP771 also features the latest Texas Instrument Brilliant Color technology and wall color correction function.

There's a catch, though. Since it has only a fixed zoom lens, wall space could be an issue. We'… Read more

BenQ shows off its slimmest 24-inch panel yet

The Taiwanese PC maker calls it the "world's slimmest 24-inch LCD monitor," boasting that it measures just 2.44 inches at its thickest point.

The V2400W design, which was inspired by a B-2 Stealth bomber, uses an advanced Rapid Heat Cycle Molding (RHCM) injection technology to achieve its slim profile, according to BenQ. This new technology allows for more flexibility in molding non-traditional shapes and designs.

Introduced as a premium product, the V2400W sports a mirror-black finish with slick touch controls. It will feature HDMI (with HDCP), DVI, and VGA connectivity options, together with full 1080p high-definition … Read more

BenQ shares SideShow spotlight

BenQ is the latest to offer laptops with an external LCD screen featuring Microsoft's "SideShow" technology, following Asus and LG.

SideShow is the feature of Windows Vista that allows playback of multimedia files, as well as email and calendars, on a separate screen without having to boot up the machine. Unfortunately, one pays a premium for this feature. For example, the SideShow LG R200-Q compared to the cheaper LG R200-G variant costs an extra $500 or so. For that price one can get a basic PDA that serves a similar function.

The BenQ Q41, however, ups the … Read more

BenQ E1000: Talking tough

By far our favorite press release of the last week comes from BenQ, announcing the E1000. It's a 10-megapixel compact snapper parceled in a metal frame designed for "individuals with discerning taste," according to BenQ, that "truly reflects an individual's character, personality and above all, masculinity." Above all, masculinity! So is this a camera for taking pictures of yourself bench-pressing burning cars on a building site in Baghdad?

Er, no, not really. The E1000 includes a 76mm (3-inch) LCD screen, which is good: We like big screens. We'd like to see more compacts … Read more

A new how-do-you-do from BenQ

BenQ has just announced a new big-screen, high-ISO, compact snapshot camera, just in time for holiday shoppers to ask why the company is announcing a new product in mid-December. The X710 is a slim, 7.2-megapixel shooter with a big 3-inch LCD screen and a 30fps VGA movie mode that can hit ISO 4000 sensitivity for filming in low light. Of course, that setting will probably mean incredibly noisy, grainy movies that look like they come out of 1970s-era video tapes. Still shots can only go up to ISO 1200, which will still probably be pretty darn noisy. The … Read more

MP3 player goes for battlefield look

MP3 players have already become fashion items and, as they've shrunk to Lilliputian size, we were wondering how long it would take for them to be designed as jewelry. After all, why take pains to sew them into clothing when you can make a statement right on your body?

That's apparently the thinking behind the limited-edition MusiQ from BenQ, an aluminum-magnesium music player that doubles as a dog tag, complete with a metal earphone chain. Anything But iPod says a 512MB version of the player will be available in December for about $88, but pricing for a 1GB … Read more
