Trendnet ships first 450Mbps wireless router

Wireless-N routers with the ceiling speed of 450Mbps (as opposed to the existing 300Mbps) were first talked about at CES 2009. Trendnet announced Tuesday that it's set to ship the TEW-691GR, the very first 450Mbps Wireless-N Gigabit router on the market.

The TEW-691GR comes with three antennas; each broadcasts in three spatial streams and produces a ceiling throughput speed of 450Mbps, which is 50 percent faster than exciting dual-stream Wireless-N routers.

The TEW-691GR, however, is just a single-band router, supporting only the 2.4GHz band. It also shares a similar set of networking features as other Trendnet routers, such … Read more

LAS VEGAS--TrendNet was one of the first networking vendors, together with D-Link, to start the green-networking initiative more than a year go. The company invented and implements what it calls GreenNet technology in most of its networking products.

The company announced Friday the latest addition to its green product portfolio, the eight-port Gigabit GreenNet switch, model TEG-S80Dg, which uses significantly less energy compared with traditional products of the same type.

GreenNet is a TrendNet switch-based technology that determines and supplies the appropriate amount of electrical power to each hardwired switching port as required by the connected device, the port, or … Read more

TrendNet releases dual-band, green router

LAS VEGAS--True dual-band routers are not news anymore; but TrendNet, a networking vendor with many innovative solutions, introduced one at CES 2010 that offers some original features.

The company announced Thursday its brand-new true dual-band router, the TEW-673GRU. According to TrendNet, this new router uses up to 70 percent less energy than other routers with the same features.

The router achieves this by using TrendNet's power saving GreenNet technology that reduces port-based power consumption. It also uses an Energy Star Certified power adapter that reduces energy consumption by 30 percent compared with noncertified adapters.

The TEW-673GRU uses Atheros' XSpan … Read more

Trendnet shows off tiny Wireless-N USB adapter

Hardly any laptop computers come without built-in wireless nowadays. However, if yours lacks Wi-Fi, or if you want to quickly upgrade to Wireless-N without something sticking out of the USB port, Trendnet has something to offer you.

The networking vendor announced on Tuesday what it calls the "world's smallest Mini Wireless N USB Adapter," the TEW-648UB. This ultracompact adapter is just slightly larger than a quarter in size, measuring merely 1.3 inches in length.

What's the catch? It's a single-stream adapter, meaning it supports speeds up to only 150Mbps (as opposed to 300Mbps of … Read more

Trendnet updates TV-M7 wireless camera monitor

Trendnet's cool IP camera monitor and photo frame, the TV-M7, which debuted at CES 2009, just got a little cooler. The company announced Tuesday a firmware update for the 7-inch, wireless unit that adds two new major features to make it even more IP camera-centric.

The first new feature is extended customization for the device's log-in screen. For example, you can now set the monitor to go straight to the IP camera selection page when turned on. Previously, you needed to go through a few menu items to get there.

Trendnet joins true dual-band router club

Better late than never, Trendnet unveiled at CES 2009 its first true dual-band wireless-N router, the 300Mbps Concurrent Dual-Band Wireless N Gigabit Router, or TEW-673GR. This is the upgrade to the company's TEW-672GR, which was released five months ago and is a non-true dual-band router.

The TEW-673GR is built with an Atheros chipset and Trendnet claims that it delivers unsurpassed wireless speed. Most importantly, the router offers concurrent dual-band wireless-N performance.

If you still don't know what this means, concurrent (or true) dual-band technology allows two wireless networks simultaneously, using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio frequencies. … Read more

Wireless networking vendors turn Wireless-N up a notch

Before I begin, let me say this one more time: The 802.11n wireless specification (or Wireless-N, which is currently still in draft state and therefore is also known as Draft N) is a wireless networking standard that offers speeds up to 300Mbps. That is a lot faster than the previous and popular specification 802.11g (or Wireless-G) that caps out at 54Mbps. Wireless-N is backward compatible with Wireless-G devices, meaning they can be connected to Wireless-N networks at 802.11g speed.

Now that, though confusing, is all common knowledge. What's not commonly known is that wireless vendors are … Read more
