A closer look at the Nyko Wand

We chose the Nyko Wand as a Best of CES gaming finalist because the product not only improves on the original Nintendo design, but because of the controller's innovative Trans-Port interface.

Check out our slide show detailing the features of the Wand and see how it will combine with accessories like the Pistol Grip.

Nyko Kama Nunchuk gets rechargeable battery, dock

When we reviewed the Nyko Kama Wireless Nunchuk our biggest complaint was that it required two AAA batteries. That aside, we really enjoyed the luxury of removing the wire that normal tethers your Wii remote to the nunchuk.

Nyko has responded to some of our gripes with the Kama Charge Kit, a rechargeable version of the Kama nunchuk that docks and charges in a special cradle molded for it. The kit also adds a rubberized backing to the wireless nunchuk--a feature we really liked included with the original Charge Station.

In addition to storing and charging the Kama nunchuk, there'… Read more

Nyko improves on Charge Station by adding a battery meter

If there's one accessory we'd label as a must-have for the Nintendo Wii, it would be the Nyko Charge Station. The company also recently released a Quad Charge Station, allowing you to simultaneously store and charge up to four Wii remotes.

At CES, Nyko has announced a successor to the Charge Station, the EX. However, the only real upgrade is the addition of a battery meter on the actual charging dock designed to take the guesswork out of potentially premature charging. The Charge Station EX will also come with custom grip battery controllers just like the original.

The Wand: Nyko announces a high-tech Wii remote alternative

In an effort to trump the existing Nintendo Wii remote controller, Nyko is introducing what the company is calling the most advanced Wii remote yet.

The Nyko Wand looks a lot like the Wii remote we're all used to, but instead can output commands and even vibration through the controller's port at the bottom of the device. Using what Nyko calls Trans-Port technology, the new interface will allow compatible devices to take advantage of functionality not always available in current Wii remote accessories.

For example, a new pistol grip for The Wand will allow not only full force-feedback, … Read more

Roundup: IR-to-Bluetooth converters that let you control your PS3 with a universal remote

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a game console first, but its Blu-ray playback also makes it one of the most popular home theater devices on the market. The only problem is that because the PS3 lacks an IR receptor, its difficult to integrate with home theaters centered around a IR-based universal remote, like a Harmony. For those who have become accustomed to controlling their gear using simple buttons that say "Watch TV" or "Watch a Blu-ray disc," it's a real pain that the PS3 requires using Sony's Blu-ray DVD remote or the game controller.… Read more

Nyko Wing reviewed: Better than the Nintendo original

We've just posted our review of the highly anticipated Nyko Wing Wireless Classic Controller for use with the Nintendo Wii. Since the console's launch, owners of the system have had only one choice for universal compatibility with all Virtual Console games.

While the Nintendo Classic Controller has been a satisfactory accessory for retro-game enthusiasts, the Wing improves upon the design in almost every regard. Gamers not only have a wireless solution (unlike the Nintendo original), but a more comfortable and practical design.

Nyko Wing Classic Controller: Better than the Nintendo original?

At first glance, the new Wing Wireless Classic Controller from Nyko looks like it's everything the original Nintendo Classic Controller should have been. While the Nintendo controller is oddly rounded, the Wing looks much more ergonomically satisfying with its edgier sides and form factor. It's almost as if they combined the Nintendo Classic Controller with a PlayStation DualShock.

Most noteworthy, the Wing will use a wireless dongle system, similar to the Kama Wireless Nunchuk setup where a dongle is attached to the Wii remote. This will eliminate the awkward wired connection that the Nintendo Classic Controller uses, but will also require two AAA batteries to work. However, if you decide to use rechargeable batteries, Nyko has fitted the Wing with a mini USB port that will allow for convenient charging.

Like the original Nintendo Classic Controller, the Nyko Wing will work with all Virtual Console games, select Wii games, and the recently added WiiWare library of games.

The Nyko Wing Wireless Classic Controller will ship sometime in October for $30, about $10 more than the Nintendo original. Check CNET in the coming weeks for a full review. For now, click through for some more photos of the Wing.… Read more

Xbox 360 gets some base-charging love from Nyko

Nyko has announced the release of an Xbox 360-compatible charging base, much like the PlayStation 3 one the company debuted almost two months ago.

The Nyko Charge Base 360 comes with two NiMH rechargeable batteries fitted with contact points that allow you to simply drop the controller into the included cradle. The base can charge one battery in 2 hours and two in 4. Nyko says that each full battery charge should net you about 25 hours of play time.

Microsoft offers a Quick Charge Kit for around $30 that only comes with one battery and charges a single pack … Read more

Another wireless nunchuk option surfaces

We recently reviewed the Nyko Kama Wireless Nunchuk for the Nintendo Wii, and while we considered it to be a luxury item, we thought it was a great way to rid yourself of that last wire from your Wii experience.

Now from Engadget comes word of a new wireless solution to the original nunchuk, but instead of offering a self-contained wireless unit, this adapter takes your current nunchuk and turns it into a wireless one. Just like the Nyko, this uses two AAA batteries and operates on a 2.4GHz transmitter.

From the pictures on the product page, it doesn'… Read more

Recharger ensures marathon 'Wii Fit' sessions

Time's running out: You've got only two more days to get the Wii Fit and offend mom on Mother's Day--or at least pre-order one, as it's not available until May 19. And to make up for the tardiness of the misguided gift, there's even a way to add insult to injury with a rechargeable battery.

Nyko will be shipping its "Energy Pak" for the "Wii Balance Board" on the same day the fitness game is released to provide maximum sweat time, according to Gizmodo. The recharging brick plugs into the bottom … Read more
