Belkin introduces new iPad 2 Keyboard Folio case

Welcome another iPad 2 Bluetooth keyboard/folio case to the world.

This one arrives courtesy of Belkin and its appropriately called the Keyboard Folio ($99.99). Unlike some models that feature rubber keys, this one has larger TruType keys for what Belkin says is "a comfortable, computer-style typing experience and complements the functionality of the iPad 2 with separate, adjustable modes for viewing and typing."

Several cases with integrated Bluetooth keyboards are available already (see roundup below), but Belkin is claiming its Keyboard Folio is ultrathin and lightweight. When we get your hands on one, we'll let … Read more

Belkin N750 DB router review: Almost a great deal

Generally, if you want to get a good true dual-band router, you should be prepared to spend around $130 or more.

For this reason, at a street price of less than $100, Belkin's stylish new N750 DB Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router is a steal. And this is not just a regular dual-band router; it's also one of the few on the market that offers the higher 450Mbps speed on the 5GHz band.

However, as they say, things are cheap for a reason. And for the N750 DB, this reason is not that it's a bad router but that it delivers less than it makes buyers expect.

An example of this is the fact that the router doesn't support IPv6 or the old standard WEP wireless encryption. This means it's neither future-proof nor backward-compatible with existing wireless clients that only use WEP.… Read more

Belkin offers 'smart' router for smart meters

Belkin on Thursday introduced a router capable of offering real-time information and advice on home energy use via a Web interface.

The Conserve Gateway router connects with a home's existing smart meter, but is not just an overview of the energy usage for the home. It can be used to monitor and control specific devices and appliances hooked into the home network. It operates via Wi-Fi or Ethernet as a standalone router, or can tie into an existing broadband router, and also has an antenna for ZigBee communication.

The Belkin router software, which like many routers is Web accessible, … Read more

Belkin AV360 joins fight for your iMac's Mini DisplayPort input

Update: Looks like our review of the Belkin AV360 might need the weekend, or how ever long it takes for Belkin to respond to our several queries. We're pretty much done, though. We found out what Belkin meant by "scaling," too. It means you don't need to pre-set your devices for 720p input to work on the iMac. The AV360 will simply scale them down for you. Convenient.

Belkin's AV360 isn't the first device to bridge the gap between the 27-inch iMac and HDMI-based video devices. We reviewed the similar Kanex XD a month … Read more

Belkin gear makes electronics smarter about power

Belkin on Tuesday is introducing a handful of gadgets designed to cut off the flow off of wasted electricity from electronic devices and to give consumers more data on home energy use.

The peripherals maker filled out its existing Conserve product line with a handheld power meter, timer, charging station, and power strip--all of which are meant to give consumers ways to lower power use at home.

The Conserve Valet is a charging spot for up to four mobile devices that cuts power to zero when electronics are fully charged. It's meant to address the reality that even when … Read more

Belkin invests in smart charger for electric cars

Will home energy management become the domain of consumer electronics companies?

Belkin, which makes PC peripherals and accessories, said on Thursday it has invested in Juice Technologies, a start-up which makes equipment for charging electric vehicles and home energy monitors marketed under the Plug Smart brand.

Last month, Belkin purchased Zensi, a technology company which makes sensors to give people detailed information on electricity usage. Apple is rumored to have been a suitor for Zensi as well.

The acquisition and investment in Columbus, Ohio-based Juice Technologies--both for undisclosed sums--are part of Belkin's strategy to offer energy management products to … Read more

Belkin buys crafty power-tracking start-up

Electronics and wireless equipment maker Belkin is getting deeper into energy management as it acquires a small company with technology that detects how electricity is used within a home.

The company, called Zensi, was founded by academics--including Shwetak Patel and Matthew Reynolds--who developed a system for sensing the amount of electricity used by various appliances, said Kevin Ashton, the former CEO of Zensi.

By interpreting electrical variations on a building's wiring, the system can detect when different appliances are turned on and off and can create a profile on electricity consumption. One device plugged into the wall could, … Read more

Belkin introduces wireless routers with apps

Of all electronic and computer devices in your home, the wireless router might be the one that's least appreciated. That is because despite it tireless 24-7 job of connecting all your devices to the Internet, it only gets attention when you need to add a new wireless device to the network or when it's not working properly. Belkin has decided to change this.

The company announced Wednesday a line of wireless routers that is designed to help you do more with digital content than just silently connect devices. Belkin's new line consists of four wireless routers: the Read more

Presto! Belkin's Netbook sleeves are now iPad sleeves

Not surprisingly, now that the iPad has officially launched, we're starting to see a steady stream of upcoming iPad accessories. Some of the early ones weren't designed specifically for the iPad but they're being artfully repurposed for Apple's new tablet.

The folks at Ten One Design are quick to note that their two Pogo Stylus products will work with the iPad. And Belkin's taken its line of Netbook sleeves and magically retrofitted them for the iPad (the Belkin sleeves fit Netbooks with screen sizes up to 10.2 inches).

The three sleeves are called Vue ($… Read more
