'Ghostbusters' Ecto 1 up for auction

"Who ya gonna call?" Or maybe I should say, "They call me MISTER Tibbs!"

The Ecto 1, the 1959 Cadillac that Venkman, Spengler, Stantz and Zeddmore used to catch ghosts in the film Ghostbusters, is up for sale by the Volo Auto Museum, which has offered the vehicle through the Hemmings collector-car marketplace.

For a mere $149,998, a little piece of your '80s childhood could be sitting in your garage. But that's not all you'd get.

A little known fact about this car, according to Hemmings, is that it is the same 1959 … Read more

Acura's newest tech barge

With amenities such as navigation with live traffic reporting and a phenomenal stereo system, Acura led the way in car technology with its RL and RDX models. Now it has taken the tech from those cars and loaded it into the full-size MDX SUV. We just got the 2007 Acura MDX in at CNET Car Tech, and this car gives us a lot to chew on. As with many SUVs these days, the MDX gets a third row of seats. With its relatively short body, the third row occupies most of the cargo area, so you can either haul six … Read more

A bunch of Web veterans are teaming up to offer an online forum for gearheads, giving car owners the chance to submit, edit, and control car-related content. Built on an open platform, CarGurus.com gives users a place to post their own reviews, photos, and wiki entries, and to ask questions of an audience of like-minded drivers.

The site, which has been in beta since March 2006, is the brainchild of Langley Steinert, co-founder and former Chairman of Trip Advisor; Simon Rothman, founder of eBay motors; and Matt Rightmire, a former vice president at Yahoo, among others. It will formerly … Read more

Eclectic car powered by nature

Venturi, a French company that bills itself as "The Carbon Neutral Company," has a new electric vehicle that can also be powered by nature.

Whenever I see cars like this, my first thought is always...OK, how fast does it go? Politics aside, no one wants to be the guy in the Trabant.

The answer for the Venturi Eclectic is not that fast, but not that bad for what it is. It tops out at 31 mph.

As with the Tamarack Lake Engine Company's solar-electric pontoon boat, recreational vehicles like these seem to be more about making … Read more

Floral paisley Porsche

It's a Porsche painted in a floral paisley pattern. Unfortunately, we can't tell you where to buy it or how much it might cost to have this done to your own car.

Jalopnik found this interesting paint job on Russian blog Parkoffka.ru.

Parkoffka means "parking" in Russian. And the pattern is not actually paisley, but is rather based on the famous Russian folk craft Hohloma (or Khokhloma), which first appeared in 17th century Russia. The name derives from one of the original trade villages, where the pattern was created.

According to our translator, the photos … Read more

Panasonic jams with Fender

If you like to rock out in your car, but don't want to turn your ride into a mobile guitar amp, then this might be the answer: an in-car audio system jointly designed by Panasonic and Fender. The iconic guitar maker has teamed up with Panasonic to "create customized products for the global automotive industry."

The collaboration is an attempt to cash in on Fender's brand name and expertise in the musical instruments industry, and it's another effort by Panasonic to name-drop its way into the in-car audio market. Panasonic already supplies the likes of … Read more

McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car debuts

The McLaren Mercedes MP4-22 had its track debut at the Valencia circuit in Spain on Wednesday.

There were some glitches, however. World Champion Fernando Alonso was forced to return to the pit at one point when smoke began to come out from the back of the car, according to Autosport.

Alonso completed 57 laps with his fastest time on the track (after the smoking pit stop) at 1 minute, 12.053 seconds.

The test follows the announcement that Vodafone is releasing three Formula One cell phones to celebrate its sponsorship of the McLaren Mercedes team.

Ferrari's F2007 tested at Fiorano

Ferrari's new Formula 1 car, the F2007, made its track debut at the Fiorano Test Track, in northern Italy, on Monday.

(And you thought I had a cool job.)

The F2007, wet and with driver, weighs about 1,323 pounds (600kg), according to Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro's specs. (… Read more
