Talking thermometer tells you how to grill

It was only afew days ago that we hought we'd found the ultimate barbecue tool with the "Redi-Chek Remote Thermometer," which monitors your culinary feats wirelessly from up to 100 feet away while you watch TV. How wrong we were.

Oregon Scientific has weighed in with a wireless version of its own that monitors your steaks from a distance up to 330 feet so you can even see the game on the neighbor's new plasma. But here's the real kicker: It talks to you. The "Grill Right" thermometer can "verbally alert you&… Read more

The 24k gold-plated barbecue

Depending on how you feel about barbecues, this is either an unmitigated disaster or the best thing since the "George Foreman iGrill." We're torn.

On one hand, it's a monster 'cue with quartz ignition, a vaporizer grid, six burners--not including one to heat a wok--and a roasting hood with a viewing window (gasp). On the other, according to Gizmag, all parts of BeefEater's "Signature Series 6 Burner SL4000" are plated in 24-carat gold. All of them, that is, except for the grilling surfaces. (Thank goodness level heads prevailed, at least in this regard.)… Read more

An armchair chef's guide to grilling

After some of our last few posts, it occurs to us that we may have left the impression that we're anti-social couch potatoes here at Crave. Not so. We enjoy entertaining company as much as anyone--so long as it's under our conditions.

This summer, for example, we'll be the first in our neighborhood to throw a barbecue, and we're even willing to do the cooking. We just don't want to have to expend any energy doing it, which is precisely why we need the "Redi-Chek Remote Thermometer."

This gadget can be programmed to … Read more

The George Foreman iGrill

There are so many reasons to love George Foreman. The monumental title fight against Joe Frazier in 1973, the insane comeback that lasted into his '40s, and the fact that he's named all five of his sons George. But the thing we appreciate most? He loves to eat. And he's made beaucoup bucks doing it.

It's been reported that more George Foreman Grills have been sold than any other household appliance ever--more than 55 million, to be inexact. Never content to rest on his considerable laurels, however, Foreman is updating the "Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine&… Read more

Blast your tunes on the BBQ

If you can't afford Manny Ramirez's grill (or even his neighbor's), fear not: Stainless steel and BTU levels aren't everything. For one thing, we're willing to bet that it doesn't play music.

That's right, you too can be the owner of what T3 calls "the world's first MP3 blasting barbecue." B&Q's "Memphis Barbecue" hides a speaker behind a retro-designed front panel that sports a chrome emblem worthy of the grille on a '50s hot rod (a grille grill?). In the back is an adapter that … Read more

Update: Manny Ramirez goes from RBIs to ribs

Update: According to Boston.com's Extra Bases blog, the grill on eBay doesn't belong to Manny Ramirez. The grill reportedly belongs to Ramirez's neighbor; Ramirez is just helping drive up the bid price.

Major League Baseball players get paid a lot of money. But the sad truth is, they don't get a lot of downtime to enjoy all the things they can afford.

Case in point: Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez is selling his high-end grill on eBay, claiming he can't use it much because he's "always on the road." In … Read more

Turn the backyard into a theater

It may not seem like it, but winter will end someday. And when it does, you'll wish you'd gotten an "Ultimate Outdoor Theater." Cal Spas, a hot tub manufacturer that's almost synonymous with the California lifestyle, has taken a giant leap into the upscale realm with this all-in-one system. And we do mean all in one. In addition to an anti-fog, anti-glare 63-inch LCD television, surround sound, a DVD player, iPod docking station and satellite radio receiver, BornRich says the setup includes a five-burner grill, wet bar, weather-proof recliners and two fire pits--with everything built … Read more

No backyard for a barbecue? No worries

Yup, just in time for summer. It's all of 12 degrees Fahrenheit here in Manhattan, which is a big improvement over the 8-degree temperatures this morning, but still not warm enough to be thinking about outdoor barbecues. Nevertheless, this contraption on ProductDose is worth a nod, in my opinion: it's a balcony barbecue that allows you to fix a mini charcoal grill onto the edge of a balcony and use it to prepare burgers, fish, steaks, shish kebabs, or what-have-you. It looks as though it was somewhat inspired by flower boxes: there's a lower space to hold … Read more

Did George Foreman approve this?

I'm female. I don't mind pink. In fact, I kind of like it. I wore a pink shirt the other day, and my iPod is housed in a hot pink iSkin. I wouldn't buy a pink RAZR (the quintessential example of a pink gadget) but if someone gave one to me along with a nice fat data plan, I'd take it. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I'm not a pink-hater.

That being said, I see absolutely no reason for the existence of a baby-pink George Foreman grill, which GadgetCandy drew our … Read more
