The 404 gets down and dirty at the CNET Tiburon launch party

The 404 is proud to present our official podcast from the Tiburon Launch party. The event was held at the elegant 450 Club complete with hors d'oeuvres (vodka spritzer, anyone?), desserts, and of course, an open bar. After sitting down with a host of people and later sifting through a mountain of cuss words, deviant behavior, and otherwise inappropriate material, it's easy to see that people had a blast. The new CNET.com looks fantastic and we all worked hard to see it come to life, so a big thanks to everyone that came out, especially Jim Loughran … Read more

Inside CNET Labs 14: Frank and Earnest

Dong recaps his NY trip and his newfound adoration of Dan Ackerman--and it's not even spring yet. WTF?

Eric talks a bit about sexy graphics card testing and Dong bores us all with hard drive tests. Also, we discuss nerds (or geeks), girlfriends, and the ties that bind them.

Also, a shout out to all three or four of our female fans! Enjoys! To subscribe to this podcast, visit us at our main page and click the link on the right.

Monitors, displays, and nearly everything in between on ATE Live

Luckily for me, there isn't much in between monitors and displays. Luckily for you (I hope), I'll be answering any and all questions pertaining to computer monitors on Thursday, September 17, from 11 a.m. to noon PDT (2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern). Here is the link in advance.

Show up early or late, whichever floats your boat, and I'll see ya there.

Inside CNET Labs 13: 'Their limitation is way overstretched'

Finally! Inside CNET Labs has come back to New York!

Well, half of us at least. This week, Dong and I team up with most of CNET's N.Y. Labs crew. Or maybe more accurately, the N.Y. Labs crew and I team up on Dong.

Either way, it's an episode that begins as an exercise in immature inappropriateness, but I think we redeem ourselves as human beings by the end. At least I hope.

Note: Please forgive the fact that some of the voices were recorded at a low volume. You may have to turn yer headphones … Read more

Interview: Microsoft CIO Tony Scott

SAN FRANCISCO--Last week, Microsoft Chief Information Officer Tony Scott was in town for an environmental conference and he took some time out to chat with me about his still relatively new role.

Since I hadn't had a chance to talk with him since he moved from Disney to take Microsoft's top IT job earlier this year, I was excited to get some time to get his thoughts on how he likes being a guinea pig for every new Microsoft product that comes down the line.

One of Scott's main missions--and that of his predecessors--is a process called "dogfooding"Read more

Inside CNET Labs 12.5: And the installation is freeeeee...

Is it the size of your TV that matters or the quality of its picture? Dong and I discuss TV size and quality, both in the euphemistic sense and the literal. Yes, this is part two of my increasingly tumultuous TV story. Unfortunately for me, there will be a part three.

We also delve, quite deeply, into that dirty "P" word again since Dong cannot keep his head out of the gutter when discussing a certain "hockey mom."

Finally, Dong tells a story of mistaken identity, sort of. And, the installation is free.

The 404 182: Where Brian Tong bleeds yellow and Jeff has jaundice

With Justin's fellow socks-with-sandals-wearing San Franciscan Brian Tong on the show, things get more giggly than a New Kids on the Block reunion concert. B-Tong and the boys discuss their favorite ninja turtles, a number of fast food related stories and their resentment of Twitter.

Dan the Mantern here. It was a pleasure to sit back and watch the magic happen on today's show. The Tongster brought so much good karma to The 404, a bold decision has made. Uniting West Coast and East, combining Wilson's good looks, Justin's singing voice, Brian's hair and DJ Jeff Mackalar's fresh beats it's Tang Tong Yu - the boy band sensation. Look for their new album, The Love ConNEcTion, this fall, in the Wal-Mart bargain bin underneath a VHS copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Cowabunga dude!!!

Inside CNET Labs 12: A little off-topic

Dong and I get a bit off-topic to briefly discuss...dumm dumm DUMMM!! Politics. You've been warned. We also take you a bit more behind the scenes of testing printers and monitors. Really, really exciting stuff...

Last, but not least, we make some dreams come true by answering a few e-mails. And, our very first voicemail! Although we don't actually answer it (blame Dong for that).

A video first look at Chrome

On Tuesday we shot a "first look" video of Google's new Chrome browser for CNET TV. In case you're on a Mac, running Linux, or if you're avoiding going through Google's entire list of feature videos, we've broken out some of the ones that set it apart from the competition.

What's demoed:

Tab dragging off the browser and back in The omnibar search box/address bar Customized start page Incognito/"porn" mode

Inside CNET Labs 11: This podcast clearly goes to 11

First, we answer an e-mail sent by a very concerned listener of our language and subject matter. Then Dong tells a story of misunderstandings and mistaken identity...sort of.

Eric briefly talks about Nvidia CUDA and the headaches he had last week when trying to upgrade his video card. Dong gives advice on how to speed up your Windows PC. Finally, Eric has a run-in with a business owner involving quarters that goes to ridiculous levels.
