Microsoft to license Adobe's Flash Lite

This post was updated at 10:15 a.m. PDT to correct the spelling on Anup Murarka's name.

Even though it has plans to release a competing technology, Microsoft has agreed to license Adobe's Flash Lite technology for its Windows Mobile operating system and browser.

The two companies early on Monday announced that Microsoft has signed a license to use Flash Lite and Reader LE in future Windows Mobile handsets as plug-ins for Internet Explorer Mobile. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, such as what the companies plan to do when Microsoft releases Silverlight for Mobile, a … Read more

DS Lite gets own movie service in Japan

Though I don't commute, and thus don't see the need for toting a portable console along to entertain myself on the journey, I must confess that it's tempting to own one, given the endlessly fascinating accessories the Japanese are coughing up for the DS Lite. Since March 6, the handheld has been getting its own official movie download service called DSvision.

A collaboration of Nintendo, print firm DNP, and digital media distributor am3 (the makers of GBA Movie Player), the service requires a kit that costs 3,890 yen (about $37) to kickstart the downloading experience, which … Read more

Python puts the squeeze on DS Lite

If cobalt blue represents one end of the fashion spectrum for the DS Lite, then this snakeskin version is definitely at the other.

Another victim of the designer trend run amok, this Diamond Python by Japanese artist Mayumi Hasegawa is designed to fit the poor handheld gamer, according to Newlanches, hopefully not too snugly as to squeeze the life out of it. Then again, that might be preferable than having to wear something as hideous as this.

If you're really a glutton for punishment--or simply have horrible taste--you can get skins that cover both the top and bottom for … Read more

New DS Lite color: Black and blue never felt so good

If you're one of the seven people who still do not own a Nintendo DS lite, this Sunday is your big chance to be one of the first to own a brand new color scheme being released.

The black and blue DS lite (or Cobalt/Black as Nintendo has dubbed it) features a black base, blue folding top, and black stylus. It joins the current available colors Polar White, Onyx Black, Coral Pink, and Red/Black.

Not sure what to play with your new DS lite? Check out our top games list.

Lite-On lets you mold your own mouse

Just when we thought innovation was dead, up pops Lite-On with a genuinely interesting concept. Meet the Moldable Mouse--a peripheral you can sculpt into whatever shape you can imagine.

Instead of you having to contort your hands to the shape of the mouse, the Moldable Mouse conforms to the shape of your hands--great news for lefties and people with superfluous fingers. You simply press it into your preferred shape, then gradually tweak it until it feels like an extension of your hand. Or something rude.

Unlike ordinary mice, which use hard plastics, the Moldable Mouse is made of non-toxic, … Read more

One word for Girl Gamer Magazine: Barf

Lousy move, Nintendo. The company's U.K. arm has released a promotional Girl Gamer magazine to pimp its products, which Geeksugar has posted about, and it makes me want to puke up that steak fajita I had for lunch.

Let's see what's on the cover, underneath that ghastly pink masthead: Cooking Mama, Imagine Babies, and a pink DS Lite. Ick. It sure makes a gal want to go wild with the Manhunt 2 machete.

Not to mention the fact that I haven't seen eyeliner that atrocious since Congresswoman Katherine Harris.

Will it hurt Nintendo's business? … Read more

Microsoft doesn't recommend creating Vista 'Lite'

Frustrated with Vista's sluggishness, some people have been turning to a utility called vLite, which out components of the operating system deemed unessential.

Although the move does offer frustrated Vista users an option other than going back to XP or switching to a Mac, Microsoft said Wednesday that it doesn't endorse such changes to Vista's setup.

"Microsoft does not recommend using any tool to strip out applications from Windows Vista prior to installing it on your system, as it may affect your ability to download future Windows updates and service packs, and may cause your system … Read more

Latest DS Lite gets the blues

Given how often Nintendo introduces different colors for the DS Lite, it's hardly remarkable that the handheld gamer is getting yet another new look. This one, according to Mobile Magazine, is a two-toned model in colbalt blue and black.

What does seem surprising, however, is that Nintendo isn't doing a special edition for Valentine's Day. (So far as we know, anyway.) Maybe that's because it already comes in red and pink, the two standard colors for the holiday. But even if they do decide to play the Cupid game, remember, it can always be worse.
