Porsche announced that it's holding open calls for 100 jobs Friday at its training center in Zuffenhausen, Germany.

Women, especially, are being encouraged to apply. The company would like to increase the number of women working in its industrial departments, which currently stands at only 10 percent, according to Dieter Esser, Porsche's head of vocational training.

Somehow, we don't associate the name Porsche with a hand crank--especially when it's on a radio. But that's what the venerable designers have done with the "Eton Porsche Design Radio," which combines old and new by using an aluminum crank to power its "super-heterodyne technology."

Porsche is planning to partner with Volkswagen on the Panamera, according to a company update to shareholders, saying that the painted body shells for the four-door coupe will be supplied by the Volkswagen Hannover factory.

The engines will be supplied by Porsche's famous Zuffenhausen plant.

The Panamera is the new addition to Porsche's lineup through which the company hopes to "broaden its customer basis further and step up market penetration in order to safeguard long-term growth," according to a statement.

Over the past month, Motor Trend has been working on a test to find America's best-handling car. It has dribbled out videos of some exciting on-track driving at Laguna Seca, plus commentary by test driver Max Angelelli. Motor Trend published the results of this lengthy test in its article, "Track attack! We find America's best-handling car". We could take issue with the title, which suggests only American cars are tested. The only American car maker represented is Chevrolet, with the Z06 Corvette. For the titular criteria, Motor Trend merely means cars sold in America.

Car Online in the UK is reporting that it has snagged photos of the Porsche Panamera.

Is that something to be proud of? I'm not so sure.

The Panamera is the four-door sedan rumored to be in development at Porsche, as the company begins to go the way of Ralph Lauren in terms of dulling brand impact. The rumors have recently reached a simmering point with 2009 as the expected date of release.
