We all survived the latest Apple iPad announcement and waded through the analysis aftermath. The result is a new, lighter-weight iPad Air and a refreshed iPad Mini Retina that finally brings a higher-end display to the smaller device. But iPads aren't the only tablets in the world. The competitors have been hanging out, waiting for the next round of the battle to begin.… Read more
The original iPad Mini has been given a space gray paint job to match the new Retina Mini, and now that repainted model seems to be hitting Apple Stores.
Some larger Apple Stores apparently had the space gray version of last year's model in stock early Thursday, according to AppleInsider. But those initial supplies quickly sold out. Sources told 9to5Mac that the tablet popped up at several Apple stores, though not all of them, and advised interested customers to call their local store to check on availability.
Apple's online store shows a shipping time of 24 hours or … Read more
A survey released by the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, a Chicago-based research firm, notes that almost half, 46 percent, of iPad buyers in the United States nabbed one with Retina Display during the quarter that ended in September. That's up from 32 percent in the previous quarter. Not surprisingly, that bump in sales of iPads with the higher quality display came at the expense of the iPad 2.
If the trend continues, the amount of buyers opting for … Read more
If you were still awake near the end of Wednesday's Apple keynote, you will know that Tim Cook showed a launch ad for the iPad Air.
To sell its Airness, Apple used the width of a pencil, not unlike a MacBook Air ad that showed how it fitted into a brown envelope.
Some, though, might have wondered who had been paid a little money to be the voice of Apple.
This seemed like a slightly different voice, that of a man who had seen it all and sold it all.
As it turns out, this is the voice of … Read more
Yes, but what does Steve think?
That is the question some in the Apple fraternities and sororities might have been asking after the new iPads were revealed.
For once, the remaining Apple co-founder called Steve -- Steve Wozniak -- was on a plane to London and missed the keynote.
However, when he arrived, he fully expressed his feelings to the audience at Apps World.
As reported by Techradar, Woz expressed disappointment.
"When I finally took a look at the devices, the iPads didn't hit my needs," he said.
But what about the new iPad Air? It's … Read more
It's time to start talking about the iPad 6.
Just kidding. While the iPad rumor mill stops to catch its breath for a second, I'll round up everything we got -- and maybe more importantly, what we didn't get -- at the Apple event on Tuesday.
Also this week, LG filed for some Chrome trademarks, which has me wondering whether we'll see a Chromebook from LG soon, and Microsoft could throw its hat into the smartglasses ring, which I wouldn't really mind.
Thanks for watching!
Editors' note: I mistakenly said that the "new iPad&… Read more
The first question I got from several readers, colleagues, and friends yesterday was "so which iPad should I buy?"
Many were very smart people who keep up with the ins and outs of technology, which leads me to believe that Apple's new lineup might leave some consumers scratching their heads when faced with a potential purchase this holiday.
As with years past, the new lineup is a lot of the old and a bit of new. Last year's iPad mini is $30 cheaper and will stick around, as will 2011's iPad 2 with two 16GB … Read more
A video appearance by the company's chief designer, Jony Ive, is now a regular feature of every Apple product launch. Tuesday's release of new MacBooks and iPads was no different. Up on the screen, there was Apple's chief designer, attired in his customary T-shirt, offering yet another brief discourse on bezels and batteries, recounting how Apple surmounted sundry engineering challenges to achieve greatness.
"We are often faced with a paradox when we design to make products smaller and lighter, and at the same time more powerful....if we can overcome these challenges we can make something … Read more
On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the latest version of its full-size tablet, the newly renamed iPad Air. As of Wednesday, as AppleInsider points out, Amazon is running a prominent advertisement on its home page that takes a swipe at the Apple tablet's new moniker. It features the Kindle Fire HDX hovering slightly above ground, with the words, "Lighter than Air."
This, of course, isn't the first time a rival has released an ad at Apple's expense. Samsung, Apple's most ardent mobile hardware rival, has put out well-received ads … Read more
To me, it's the nicest part of the whole Surface package. And that keyboard/trackpad cover- - and what it does for the Surface -- is exactly what I wanted in the larger iPad.
Apple used to have its own keyboard accessory when the iPad first debuted: it was a physical keyboard dock. So, obviously, Apple's not opposed to keyboards and iPads. I … Read more
