Red cell phones for your Valentine

Valentine's Day is almost upon us, and there may be a few red cell phones out there for you to give your loved one on that special day (or that commercialized, overhyped holiday, depending on your point of view).

Cingular/AT&T launched the Samsung Sync in red earlier this month, and we've heard that Verizon will launch not one but two red phones soon. According to the My:Tech News Blog, a red Motorola Krzr K1m (dubbed the Krzr Fire) and a red LG Chocolate (dubbed the Strawberry Chocolate) have appeared on Verizon's "testman" Web site, … Read more

The Razr V3xx launched on Cingular today

We mentioned earlier this month that Cingular/AT&T was going to update its 3.5G HSDPA phone lineup with the much-awaited Motorola Razr V3xx. Well the time has come because the carrier just launched the Razr V3xx today, and even more details of the phone have been released. The most notable of which is that the Razr V3xx will be Cingular's first 3.6 Mbps HSDPA handset. Previous HSDPA phones from Cingular (like the LG CU500) were capped out at 1.8 Mbps due to network limitations, but the company is planning to increase the network's … Read more

An EV-DO Razr Maxx

We know the HSDPA Motorola Razr V3xx is coming to AT&T/Cingular but we still haven't heard anything regarding U.S. carrier availability on the equally powerful Motorola Razr Maxx. And that's too bad as the Razr Maxx promises to be the most appealing Razr to date.

But now it appears we may get our wish, just in a different form. Howard Forums has published marketing photos of a promised EV-DO variant of the phone, the Maxx Ve for Verizon Wireless. Details are sketchy at this point but it's rumored the Maxx Ve will offer … Read more

Charge up your cell phone while you ride a bike

If you ride your bike to and from work every day anyway, why not charge your phone at the same time? That's the premise behind this cell phone docking station from Motorola that mounts on top of a bicycle. Let your pedals power up your phone battery phone as you swerve around dodging cars and pedestrians. Not only will you save time, you'll help the environment too. Too bad we can't figure out if this will be available here and at what price, but it's a neat concept all the same. Just don't take any … Read more

Motorola leaks 3G Krzr and Rizr

Motorola remains hard at work pumping out new models from its big, thin-phone machine. Pictures of updated versions of the Krzr and Rizr trickled into the blogosphere yesterday, after Moto showed the phones to company investors. Both the Krzr K3 and the Rizr Z8 should feature all the goodies of the existing models but add 3G support as well. No word on availability, but stay tuned.

Bienvenido, Motorola Q2?

As some of you phone fanatics may know, the 3GSM World Congress is coming up soon in Barcelona, Spain (unfortunately, Crave won't be there in person sipping on Spanish wine along Las Ramblas, err, I mean, to cover the event). The annual conference brings together the cell phone industry to discuss and showcase the latest 3G technologies and developments, and in recent years, it has also served as backdrop to some pretty cool product announcements. Now, based on some blogosphere rumblings, it looks like this year won't be any different. According to Engadget Mobile, Motorola is prepping to … Read more

Get TiVo without a TiVo box

The moment many have long awaited has arrived: Comcast cable customers can get TiVo on the cable company's own DVR set-top boxes.

TiVo is now available as a software download, which means no new piece of hardware for current customers and no waiting around for hours on a technician.

It's the first time TiVo's been available on non-TiVo hardware. Motorola says its DCT6412 set-top box is one such model. Technical trials began in December 2006, and market trials will begin this spring, the companies said. What they're not saying is how much the service will cost. … Read more

Motorola to bring navigation to its phones

An increasing trend in cell phones is the addition of location-based services, such as TeleNav and Verizon's VZ Navigator, so you can get maps and driving directions right on your handset. Now, Motorola has announced that it's teaming up with Destinator Technologies and Jentro Technologies to bring such services to its mobiles, as well as new navigation products in 2007. Jentro specializes in satellite phone navigation, while Destinator develops nav software for mobile devices. Though the companies didn't outline any specific products, they did say the products will give consumers access to local point-of-interest searches, community tools, … Read more

Cingular gets Razr V3xx

Razr fans (yes, there are still a lot of them) can rejoice again as Cingular picks up the Motorola Razr V3xx. Though it resembles Cingular's original Razr V3 (except for the darker color), the V3xx is compatible with Cingular's growing 3.5G HSDPA network. Cingular Video support is also included, and the phone sports a dedicated Cingular TV button in the navigation array. Other features are standard for the Razr series. You'll find Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and a digital music player. Though the phone has been shipped to Cingular, Motorola said it's still not available in … Read more

Samsung shows a new turn on thin phones

At CES Samsung showed off a quirky cell phone that takes "thin" to a whole level. It's not thin from the side like the Motorola Razr, but rather it's exceptionally slim when measured across its front face. The GSM Samsung SGH-X830 measures about an inch wide and sports a swivel form factor in a gallery of colors, including black, green, red and blue. Features are impressive for such a small phone. Inside is a 2-megapixel camera, a digital music player, multiformat video support, 1GB of flash memory, stereo Bluetooth, a 65,536-color display and USB 2.… Read more
