Screen-capturing software

ScreenHunter Pro provides users with a program that quickly and easily replaces the traditional method of making a screenshot. While the program works well, users may want to try the free version instead.

Screenhunter has a fairly self-explanatory interface designed to help users toggle between options for capturing screenshots. For those who are still confused, the program offers a very in-depth Help file that walks through each function and your opportunities. While choosing between entire screen captures or focusing on a particular image and saving it was simple, we couldn't help but wonder why anyone would choose the paid … Read more

The 404 343: Where we're so Liz Money we don't even know it

Star of The Gagdet 411's "The Money Shot" Web show, Liz Money, joins us in the studio today to talk about the gadgets she's currently obsessed with. Liz is in town from New Orleans (see Nawlins) and was nice enough to stop by the 404 studio for some good, clean fun.

That wholesome fun ends when we get into a story about a recent Trojan outbreak in the office that, while seemingly benign, spread like wildfire. Liz helps gets the message across: it's always best to use antivirus protection.

Next it's on to Ron Howard's new film "Angels & Demons". We chat about how the book will probably still be better than the movie, but that it's pretty much guaranteed to be better than "The DaVinci Code."

Finally, we quickly touch on the fate of Duke Nukem Forever, a game stuck in the development process for just over an entire decade. Then we get Jeff's quick take on SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

A real shot glass

Shot glasses come in every color and are available with just about any logo. The 12 Gauge Shot Glass still manages to stand out, however, with an appearance that isn't so different from a shot gun shell. This shot glass is red plastic, with a metal base, offering an advantage over other glasses; this shot glass is less likely to get broken when a friend slams one back. The side is stamped with the words, "12 Gauge Shot Glass," in white, and the glass appears similar to an empty shell--at least until you fill it up. The … Read more

Canon PowerShot A2000 IS: User-friendly, if not exciting

Readily available for less than $170 is the Canon PowerShot A2000 IS. Released late in 2008, it's a 10-megapixel camera with a 6x optical zoom and a 3-inch LCD (sorry, no viewfinder).

It's small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or small bag, but because it runs on two AA batteries, it's a little on the heavy side. The A2000 is also not all that exciting to look at or loaded with features.

It's a basic point-and-shoot, so if you're looking to set shutter speed and aperture, you'll need a different camera. The … Read more

Canon notes random lines in PowerShot G10 pics

Canon released a service note detailing a notable but infrequently and randomly occurring artifact in photos shot with certain PowerShot G10s: lines. If you've seen these and wondered at them, wonder no more, and contact Canon for your free repair. It turns out our evaluation unit fell into the relevant serial number range, but none of my test photos displayed this problem. Whew.
