AT&T's latest LTE expansion brings city total to 60

AT&T's continue to slowly close in on its quest to cover its customers with 4G LTE.

Today the carrier ignited LTE in seven new cities and expanded its coverage within two more.

New launch cities:

Anchorage, Alaska Bakersfield, Calif. Jacksonville, Fla. Modesto, Calif. Omaha, Neb. Syracuse, N.Y. Bridgeport, Conn.

Expansions:

New York to northern New Jersey Washington, D.C., to Baltimore, Md.

iPhone 5 on shopping list of majority of iPhone 4 owners

The next iPhone device, which many are calling the iPhone 5, is being eyed by a hefty number of iPhone 4 owners.

A full 74 percent of iPhone 4 owners will upgrade to the next iPhone, according to survey results out today from deal site TechBargains.

The iPhone 5 is also on the shopping list of 71 percent of iPhone 3GS owners, 64 percent of iPhone 4S owners, 38 percent of Blackberry owners, and 22 percent of Android owners, all of whom plan to switch from their current handsets. Sprint adds four markets to its slow-growing LTE network

Sprint today announced that it has launched LTE service in four new markets across four states. Bringing the total number of major markets to six, Sprint's new 4G technology arrives in Baltimore, the site where the carrier first deployed its WiMax (Xohm) service nearly four years ago.

Acknowledging that it put its eggs in the wrong basket, Sprint has had to start anew with an LTE build-out.

In addition to Baltimore, the carrier now offers LTE in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Mo., and San Antonio.

Samsung once again vies for reversal on U.S. tablet ban

The court trial between Apple and Samsung may have wrapped up last week, but the spat just keeps on rolling.

The latest: a new court filing from Samsung, attempting once again to get the U.S. preliminary injunction against its Galaxy Tab 10.1 dissolved ahead of next month's post-trial injunctions-related hearing.

Apple: Expand the ban on Samsung's Galaxy Tab

In a filing earlier today, picked up by Bloomberg, Apple said it wants to extend an earlier injunction on Samsung's Wi-Fi-only 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet to encompass the cellular version as well.

Apple cites the jury verdict from last week, which found the Wi-Fi version of that tablet to infringe on three of Apple's "feature" (i.e., software) patents. The 4G version of the tablet was also on the verdict form, but the jury didn't find that it infringed any of Apple's design (i.e., hardware) patents. … Read more

Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 specs reportedly leaked online

Samsung is due to unveil its Galaxy Note 2 at this week's IFA show in Berlin, but purported details about the tablet have already surfaced online.

The follow-up to the current 5.3-inch Note will reportedly offer a 5.5-inch, 1,280x720-pixel, super AMOLED display, according to a Seoul newspaper (English translation).

Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Note 2 will be powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor and offer 4G LTE connectivity, the newspaper added. An 8-megapixel camera will grace the rear. Consumers can also choose between 16GB or 32GB of storage.
