Turn on the outdoor dishwasher

The backyard has long been a destination for expanding kitchen-related activities. Even the old saying, "everything but the kitchen sink," no longer applies to outdoor cooking areas; outdoor kitchen setups have had sinks available as options for quite some time. However there is one piece of the outdoor kitchen puzzle that hasn't yet made it into the design plans of backyard grillers.

The new outdoor dishwasher from Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet completes the outdoor kitchen. Unveiled this week in New York at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, the appliance will be available for purchase in summer 2011. … Read more

Bisected oven does double duty

What would MacGyver do if he needed to bake a cake and slow-cook a roast at the same time? Well, one thing for sure is that it would involve some rubber bands and duct tape. Other than that, he would probably look to dividing up the oven cavity with some sort of makeshift contraption, allowing one half to heat at one temperature and the other half at another. The rubber bands and duct tape would come in when he realized that each cavity should have its own convection fan. Or, he could just use the Samsung FE710DRS Flex Oven, as … Read more

Weigh your options with a food processor

It is not uncommon for kitchen appliances that do one thing well to do another, similar thing just as well. Often that secondary functionality becomes your primary use for the product (think grinding spices in a coffee grinder).

You may not think it makes any sense to use a blender as a scale, but that's exactly what DeLonghi has done--incorporate a scale into a food processor. The DFP950 12-Cup Food Processor combines two similar kitchen gadgets with a third--not altogether unlikely--kitchen essential. Featuring a tare function, you can add exactly the amount of ingredients you need directly in your … Read more

Getting heavy with a Wi-Fi fridge

The secrets of the stars may be unreachable for the moment, but as for what to do with that pound of ground beef, we need look no further than the refrigerator door.

Steaming slow cooker makes all kinds of meals

Kitchen appliances are what you make of them (or in them, rather). They can help you produce a healthy meal, or they can be used to create unhealthy (yet delicious) monstrosities such as chili cheese fries with deep-fried bacon sprinkled on top. Some appliances are more at one end of the spectrum or the other--after all, not too many salads are going to emerge out of the deep-fryer--but some appliances let you choose your own fate.

The Cooks Essentials Multi-Cooker with Removable Steam Basket can help you create meals that stick to your ribs, or you can choose to make … Read more

Puffy pancakes with a flick of the switch

Kitchen electrics have a tendency to make us rationalize their existence. Perhaps it is convenience that is the deciding factor, or maybe an appliance's design appeals to us somehow. And then every once in a while, an appliance comes along that manages to give us some new way--or thing--to cook. Sometimes, appliances can even help us do something that otherwise we would not be able to do.

There can't be too many ways to cook ebelskivers. The distinctive round puffy pancakes require indentations to cook properly that only a specially designed pan can deliver. Either that or the … Read more

Hanging out with a Ninja Professional Blender

Blending isn't a delicate operation: the idea is basically to pulverize the heck out of something. Be that as it may, how blenders actually get the job done can vary. They differ in style, power consumption, or how well they distribute the ingredients to be pulverized. One way to increase the efficiency is to make sure that every little bit gets a chance to interact with a blade. And how might a blender accomplish this? By adding an extra blade set. Or two.

Given the chance to play with the new Ninja Professional Blender, I got to see if … Read more

What's better than a portable cooktop that can be used to heat up food anywhere? Why, that would be two portable cooktops that can be used to heat up food anywhere, of course.
