Motorola announced today that its second-generation Razr phone will be arriving at most major U.S. carriers by the end of the summer. The GSM Razr2 V9 will come to AT&T while the CDMA Razr2 V9m will come to Alltel, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. T-Mobile is out of the game at the moment, mostly due to the carrier's lack of a 3G network. That said, it theoretically could adopt the GSM Razr2 V8, which tops out at 2.5G EDGE speeds, but that's just speculation for now.

Nokia, the No. 1 cell phone maker in the world, reported another strong quarter of growth, as it capitalizes on poor sales from one of its main competitors, Motorola.

Nokia said Thursday that it shipped 100.8 million handsets during the quarter, an increase of 29 percent compared with the previous year. The company now boasts that it has roughly 38 percent of the worldwide handset market. Meanwhile, Motorola's market share has slipped in the second quarter, placing it in third place behind rival Samsung Electronics.

Six new unannounced handsets have shown up on Motorola's image gallery, and they all appear to be budget candybar devices. Not too much information on these phones aside from model numbers (Motorola W206, W213, W156, W160, W175 and W18), and we don't even know where they'll be headed. Judging from the two monochrome displays though, these phones are definitely on the lower end in Motorola's product lineup.

A Motorola board member has denied reports that the company is actively looking to replace CEO Ed Zander after the company reported another quarter of losses on Thursday.

Tom Meredith, an executive vice president of the company currently serving as chief financial officer and sitting on Motorola's board, said in a phone interview on Thursday that the board stands behind Zander and is not interviewing candidates to replace him. Motorola reported a second-quarter loss when it announced earnings Thursday, as sales of wireless handsets dropped by about 40 percent.

The company has some new products in the pipeline that should boost sales in the next two quarters, but executives still don't think the company's handset business will turn a profit in 2007.

Things seem to have gone from bad to worse for the No. 2 mobile handset maker Motorola and its CEO, Ed Zander.

On Wednesday the company issued a profit warning citing weak sales in its mobile handset business. The company said that it expects second quarter sales of $8.6 billion to $8.7 billion, down from the $9.4 billion it had predicted earlier. So feast your eyes on this. The Boy Genius Report has apparently scored some real-life photos of the next-gen T-Mobile Sidekick 3. Unlike previous models, the so-called Sidekick Slide (a.k.a. the Zante) is being manufactured by Motorola instead of Sharp and features a slide-up (duh, Slide) screen. No details on specs or availability just yet, but simply from a design perspective, I'm not quite sure I'm digging it. What do you guys think?
