All-in-one 'I-TV' from Italy

Who says the PC-TV is dead? A decade ago, a lot of bets were placed (and lost) on the convergence of television and the computer as a single uber-device for the home. But the concept is alive and kicking in, of all places, Italy.

Coolest-Gadgets says a company called Mc Person has unveiled an "all-in-one" system that will offer "television, radio, Internet, high-definition video, house automation, health monitoring and more." The "I-TV" concept, as it is known, works wirelessly and is controlled through a single remote.

It sounds too good to be true, unless … Read more

Finally, permission to bang on your PC

Of course your PC enrages you from time to time, but you're not supposed to bang on it -- though you would be forgiven if it's housed in a Spotswood Custom Computers case, which is actually a kick drum.

Yes, it's a slightly odd motif for a PC (oh, let's be honest; it makes no damned sense) but the Spotswood folks say a drum enclosure makes for a very quiet PC case with flexible component mounting options. And to be fair, this is the hippest possible way to house a workstation PC in a recording studio … Read more

Gaming underfoot: Fragpedal Deluxe

I've seen plenty of offbeat gaming peripherals, and these are some of the strangest. The Fragpedal Deluxe, sold at ThinkGeek, finally lets you put your feet into gaming. The Fragpedal Deluxe is a set of two hard panels, each with two buttons. You set them on the floor under your desk and bind the buttons to different commands. Tap your left foot to throw a grenade, stomp your right foot to taunt an enemy, et cetera. Few of us are nimble and dainty enough to handle keyboards and mice with our toes, but stepping on a set of buttons … Read more

Lenovo's new Tablet PC conquers screen glare

Expectations for the Tablet PC have fallen a bit in recent years, after the breathless predictions of the Tablet PC revolution from a few years ago. Only about 1 million tablets will be sold this year, out of more than 200 million overall PC sales.

Still, PC companies continue to offer doodlers and creative types a way to digitally capture their scribblings. Lenovo's got a new ThinkPad Tablet PC, the X60, that comes with a new display technology that is supposed to be easier to see under the glare from the sun.

The 12-inch screen also comes with what … Read more

A laptop to match your Lamborghini

Looking for that perfect accessory to go with your new Versace Lamborghini? You're in luck, Sparky: ASUS, maker of the rumored Prada laptop, is rolling out a new Lamborghini notebook in head-turning bright yellow with black interior and suede-trimmed black case. I4U News says the machine has some go as well as show, with a 2GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive to go with its 15.4-inch LCD screen.

Is that enough to justify a $2,800 sticker price? Remember, it is a Lamborghini. But be warned: If your neighbor pulls up … Read more

Samsung's PC is mini all right, but why?

A few years ago, we purchased a Sony "Slimtop" PC--and it wasn't even the tablet model, so please don't ask us why. (We were trying to lose weight at the time, so maybe it was some twisted form of projection. Enough about that.)

A new Samsung mini-PC, by comparison, makes the Slimtop seem morbidly obese. The MX10 measures a scant 10.4 by 11.8 inches and, other than its thickness of slightly more than 2 inches, is smaller than a lot of laptops on the market (sans screen, of course). Akihabara News says it includes … Read more

Sensory overload, all in one box

This VGA device is designed to make your life simpler--that is, if your definition of simplicity involves playing console games, using your computer, and watching TV or DVDs all at the same time. The Logic 3 Super VGA Box allows you to do all of the above on your computer screen, complete with a remote control, without changing any plugs. We assume that the manufacturer takes no responsibility for any afflictions resulting from prolonged use of the device.
