Wii dominates iPhone in crane game war

The iPhone is one of the most lusted-after gadgets, but if the size of their respective crane games is any indicator, the Nintendo Wii is still the most coveted tech--at least on the Point Pleasant Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. When I saw the iPhone crane game images on JoeyGadget last week (via Gizmodo), I couldn't help but think of my own summer Jersey Shore trip a few weeks ago, where I saw this incredibly large Wii crane game. While the Wii game clearly dominates in size, the iPhone game costs more per play--$5 per try for an iPhone and only $2 per try for a Wii. I also spotted some Xbox 360 and PS3 crane games during my visit, but they were the same size as the iPhone game and didn't get front-of-the-arcade treatment like the Wii game. And as you'd probably guess, I didn't see anyone come close to actually winning a Wii.

iPhone video is great, Wi-Fi is a mixed bag

Among the many features of the iPhone I am evaluating, the YouTube feature is an absolute treat. The picture quality is jaw-dropping. Downloading some of your classic favorites is the best way to impress people. Showing it off never entered your mind? Yeah, right.

Also excellent is the Safari browser. It truly is as easy to enlarge a page as it seems in the ads. Speed? Well, it's EDGE, so forget broadband. But with Wi-Fi, it's fast enough.

Of course, the bad thing about Wi-Fi is it eats up your battery. So you need to get into the … Read more

How do you iPhone? How the iPhone has entered our lives

This morning I saw a man with an iPhone run the San Francisco Marathon. I was using my trusty iPod Nano with the Nike+ feature instead. There was something about the iPhone that wouldn't allow me to even bring the iPhone to the race. I wouldn't check it in with my sweats, much less wear it on my arm as I run 13+ miles. I would fear losing it or breaking it. So, I went without phone - which caused me to miss one of my friends at the finish line.

This leads me to think that this … Read more

iPhone app: Dailymotion

Dailymotion, a European competitor to YouTube, has come up with an excellent app that finally brings video content to the iPhone all via the Safari browser (YouTube videos can only be accessed via the onboard YouTube application). The iPhone-friendly portal page looks a lot like the YouTube app, and when a video is selected, a small information page pops up with the video thumbnail on the upper-left corner. There's a tiny Play icon on the thumbnail, and when that's tapped, the video blows up to full size and looks almost exactly like a video from the iPod video … Read more

Ultimate conference schwag at Office 2.0

At last year's Office 2.0 Conference (which CNET sponsored), attendees were delighted to discover that the price of admission included an iPod Nano, cleverly preloaded with the conference schedule.

This year, organizer Ismael Ghalimi is raising the ante. All conference attendees get iPhones.

The phones will be part of experiment at the conference in Web-based group collaboration (the iPhones being, as we've said before, hardware for Webware), which Ghalimi explains on his site. Also, the logistics of ordering and shipping the phones to attendees is being done with Web 2.0 products and services, a Webware experiment … Read more
