Of all the Nokia N series of smart phones, the Nokia N95 is arguably one of the most popular and sought-after models. And why not? It has a 5-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, advanced multimedia capabilities, and a cool dual-slider design, just to name a few highlights. The SlingPlayer for Symbian S60 phones is out of beta and now available for sale. The software allows a selection of Nokia phones (the E65, N75, and N95 in the U.S., and the E65, N73, and 6120 elsewhere) to stream TV from the full range of Slingbox models. Previously, the Symbian software was only available pre-installed on models sold by British wireless provider 3. Furthermore, the new standalone software delivers full-screen playback and Wi-Fi streaming not available on that previous edition.

Intel and Nokia said Wednesday that they're working closely together to get WiMax-enabled devices on the market in 2008 when Sprint Nextel plans to launch parts of its new WiMax network.

The companies announced at the WiMax World Tradeshow in Chicago that they'd work together to ensure interoperability between Intel's WiMax chips and Nokia's laptop devices. Intel will also work with Nokia Siemens Networks to ensure interoperability between Intel's chips and Nokia Siemens' networking gear.

In an ideal world, every cell phone would be able to switch seamlessly from cellular to Wi-Fi networks. Unfortunately, that world is a long ways off, but Nokia is trying to get us partway there. Today the company unveiled its new 6301 handset, which is compatible with Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology. UMA allows users to make calls on a normal GSM network and then switch to Wi-Fi for voice and/or data. As Nokia said, it brings both the benefits of a cellular and a landline handset.

Nokia today announced its new Nokia 6555 for AT&T. It may look like a normal flip phone but the 6555 shows that Nokia is spurning the flip phone craze entirely. Though it's fatter than most trim handsets (it can't compete with the Razr's trend-setting profile), its tall, slender shape gives it a soundly sleek and elegant look.
