Get a 10.1-inch Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi + 3G tablet for $199.99

Way, way back in November of 2011, I wrote a post about the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi tablet selling for $349.99.

Here's proof of how quickly -- and dramatically -- prices can drop: today only, and while supplies last, Daily Steals has the refurbished 32GB Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi + 3G 10.1-inch Android tablet for $199.99, plus $5 for shipping. (And lest we forget, this sucker was $800 when it debuted in February 2011.)

The Xoom may be a dinosaur by tablet standards, but it's loaded with desirable features. It comes with a dual-core processor, 32GB of storage, … Read more

Presumed Droid Razr HD videos appear before vanishing

A handful of tips and tutorial videos for a Motorola XT926 landed on YouTube this morning only to disappear shortly thereafter. Widely considered to be the Droid Razr HD, the clips were the first semi-official look at Verizon's next Android smartphone.

Those who were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the five videos saw demonstrations of various features such as managing e-mail, Wi-Fi, messaging, and battery life. More tellingly, it also was a chance to peek at Motorola's ROM. As it appears, Verizon's next handset closely resembles the same UI as found on AT&T'… Read more

Google's Motorola hits Apple with new patent lawsuit

Motorola Mobility today filed a new patent-infringement suit against Apple and seeks to block imports of many foreign-made products such as the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and some Macs.

According to Bloomberg, Motorola, owned by Google, filed the suit in hopes that it could reach an agreement with Apple on their many existing patent disputes. In a statement to CNET, Motorola Mobility said that, "We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple's unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers' innovations."

The request to block imports … Read more

Mystery Motorola event set for September 5

Motorola just dropped a bomb of an invite that hints at the promise of sweet new smartphones. Scheduled for September 5, the press event will be held in New York and vaguely states, "Motorola. On Display," which is down right tantalizing.

Could Motorola's afternoon festivities herald the coming of a much-rumored Droid Razr HD or even Droid Raxr Maxx HD? Might Moto's new partnership yield fantastic nexus handset fruits? No product details were provided save a Motorola and Verizon logo, which lends weight to my Razr HD theory. … Read more

Android 4.0 rolling out to Droid 4

Motorola has confirmed that the Verizon Droid 4 is now officially undergoing its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Apple scores courtroom wins in Motorola FRAND case

While most of the patent litigation attention is currently focused on Apple's ongoing lawsuit against Samsung, the iPhone maker has scored some pretrial summary judgments in a Wisconsin case against Motorola Mobility over fair patent licensing terms.

Apple sued Motorola Mobility in March 2011 after Motorola sought to collect 2.25 percent of all net sales on iOS products that use essential industry standard patents. Companies that hold patents deemed to be industry essential are expected to offer them to companies that need them under licensing terms that are fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory (FRAND). However, Apple accused Motorola of … Read more

Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD could come in October

Verizon Wireless customers who thought they were getting a Droid Razr HD last week will have to wait a few more months.

Moto now is expected to release the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD in October, according to tech site HotHardware. A source told the blog that the date may shift either direction and largely revolves around the sales of the current models.

Presumably, the two Android 4.0 handsets will offer identical hardware save for the extended battery life of the Maxx edition. Said hardware is rumored to include a 720x1,280-pixel HD display, 1.5GHz … Read more

Google ready to cut 20 percent of Motorola Mobility's staff

Motorola Mobility reportedly began notifying employees today that it planned to cut 20 percent of its workforce, the first step in Google's attempt to reinvent the ailing cell phone maker.

More than a third of the 4,000 job cuts will occur in the United States and a third of the company's 94 offices will close, according to The New York Times. The company reportedly plans a wireless strategy revamp that includes exiting unprofitable markets and trimming the number of handsets it produces.

CNET contacted Google, which bought Motorola Mobility for $12.4 billion in May, for comment … Read more
