NCAA tournament clips on YouTube. Just because Viacom has gone lawsuit-happy with YouTube, that doesn't mean CBS wants to keep its content off Google's video-hosting service. When Evesham came out with its Sound Stage TV stand with its built-in speakers, we thought it might be a good sign that furniture makers would come up with some innovative ways to display the new generation of flat TVs. So far, that's proven to be overly optimistic.

Radio telescope technology reveals hot bodies on Earth

A new imaging system promises to pinpoint the location of a weapon concealed on a person without using a metal detector, a pat-down or the slightest dose of radiation, all thanks to some heavenly technology.

The BIS-WDS Prime combines "millimeter wave sensor" technology, video cameras and algorithm software to detect "objects made of metal, plastic, ceramic and composite hidden beneath a subject's clothing" from up to 45 feet away, according to manufacturer Brijot Imaging Systems. The subject doesn't have to stand still or even know he's being scanned.

Ferrari's $3,000 boombox

Crave appreciates fine sportscars as much as anybody, but even we thought it a bit odd that Ferrari was making an audio system that some people planned to keep in their garages. (To lull their Enzos to sleep, we assume.)

The company has decided, thankfully, to make something for the living room too by partnering with Meridian to create its F80 entertainment system. iPod via electrical outlets--too late?

Way back before Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other wireless technologies, some people touted electrical power lines as the next big thing for digital transmissions. But even though it was feasible, few companies marketed products that used the technology.

Despite this unknown potential, Pioneer Japan has gone ahead and released its "Music Tap" series of power-line products for the Japanese market, according to Newlaunches. The line doesn't include an actual media player but provides the equipment necessary to turn an iPod into a sound system connected by electrical outlets.

Sony Muteki DIY DJ systems

Sony unveiled new Muteki do-it-yourself DJ systems that will be available from SonyStyle.com and Sony retail stores.

Sony said in its press release that the Muteki is "perfect for getting any party started," but then particularly adds that it has created the Muteki with the "Latin culture" in mind. The Muteki systems also include a "festive companion for Hispanic fiestas like quinceaneras and Cinco de Mayo."

New Sony shelf systems with Bluetooth

Today at its line show, Sony announced three new shelf systems, all featuring Bluetooth connectivity, which will enable them to play digital audio files from other Bluetooth devices such as computers, MP3 players, and cell phones. The shelf systems will cost between $150 and $300 and will be available in April.

The CMT-BX5BT is the entry-level model. It can plays MP3 files--probably via Bluetooth or burned onto CDs--and has the ability to read ID3 tags, which means you'll get artist and track names on the display. There also are the standard features for a shelf system, such as a … Read more

Analyst: Adobe to announce CS3 products March 27

Adobe likely will announce its Creative Suite 3 (CS3) products on or about March 27," Merrill Lynch analyst Jay Vleeschhouwer predicted last week, with the products themselves to ship "several weeks thereafter."

Crucial to the new products will be support for Apple computers using Intel processors; current CS2 products run only in a slower translation mode on these newer machines, an awkward mismatch given that Apple and Adobe products are popular with design professionals.
