Today, Sprint announced the addition of the Motorola Q to its lineup, with availability starting later this month through its business channels and online and then everywhere in mid-February. The Sprint-branded Q is dressed in a sexy-cool charcoal-gray casing and supports the carrier's On Demand and NFL Mobile services, but beneath the surface, Sprint really didn't beef up the Windows Mobile smart phone with any worthy upgrades. Sprint plants a new flag on the planet of mobile music with the launch of the Sanyo M1. Sprint's new multimedia cell phone offers all the usual 3G music and video goodies such as access to Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store, but the biggest news is that it offers a whole gigabyte of internal memory. Sprint says the M1 will be able to store up to 16 hours of music or more than 1,000 2-megapixel photos--wow.

Sprint today formally launched the Motorola ic502, the first dual-mode CDMA/iDEN cell phone. As we told you two weeks ago, the iC502 will operate on Sprint's CDMA network for voice calls, then switch to Nextel's iDEN network for push-to-talk (PTT) conversations. The feature set includes all the normal Nextel offerings including integrated GPS, Direct Talk and Direct Send support, a speakerphone, and compatibility for Java applications. By launching the Motorola i880 today, Sprint Nextel proves that all work and no play make a dull cell phone user. Offering a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, and external music controls, the i880 has a bit more pizzazz than previous Nextel models, while still offering the same business-friendly accoutrements customers of the carrier have come to expect. The bulky design also is signature Nextel, while the eggplant-like color adds a bit of style. The Motorola ic502 will operate on Sprint's CDMA network for voice calls, then switch to Nextel's iDEN network for push-to-talk (PTT) conversations. Other features appear to be slim, but the handset should offer a speakerphone, basic organizer functions, and compatibility for 1xRTT data networks. Along with the red iPod Nano announced yesterday, Motorola has jumped on the AIDS charity bandwagon with the luscious red Razr, available from Sprint. As with the red iPod, this is part of Bono and Bobby Shriver's recent Red initiative to help combat HIV and AIDS in Africa. This new red Razr will be available in November from Sprint, and you can get it for $304.99 retail or $64.99 with a two-year service agreement.
