Sprint kicks off new NFL application

If you think that "football is life," Sprint is making it much easier to get your fix at all times. On Monday, the carrier and the National Football League released a new application that brings the pigskin right to your cell phone.

NFL Mobile Live will deliver the usual stats and scores, but it goes a bit further than previous football apps by offering radio broadcasts of every game for the 2008 season and video broadcasts for eight Thursday night games starting November 6. NFL Mobile Live will also let NFL.com fantasy owners monitor a player's … Read more

Sprint announces new Katana and Razr

Sprint brought back two popular cell phones for another round on Sunday when it announced new versions of the Sanyo Katana and the Motorola Razr.

Sporting thin designs (of course) with GPS and multimedia-friendly feature sets, the Sanyo Katana Eclipse and the Motorola Razr VE20 offer two takes on the thin-phone craze that just won't go away. And before you start grumbling about rehashed versions of ancient designs, we advise you to give these models a decent look.

The VE20 is more like the original Razr V3m than the Razr2 V9, but it shows some design tweaks that give … Read more

Sanyo Katana Eclipse makes it to Bell Mobility

Sanyo has recently made its new Katana Eclipse phone available for Canada, courtesy of Bell Mobility. This latest Katana flip phone is quite a stylish number, and features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, 10MB of internal memory, an MP3 player, and Bluetooth, all of which makes it much more of a mid-tier offering when compared with the decidedly basic Sanyo Katana LX.

Engadget also reveals a few convincing photos that the Katana Eclipse is also coming to Sprint USA sometime soon, but there haven't been any reports on when that'll be, exactly.

Sprint Nextel's struggle continues

Samsung's Instinct didn't save Sprint Nextel's quarter, but the company has taken a few baby steps toward recovery.

Despite strong sales of the hot new touch-screen phone, Sprint Nextel reported yet another quarter of losses on Wednesday when it posted second quarter earnings. The Instinct went on sale in June a few weeks before Apple's much lauded iPhone 3G hit store shelves. And it was deemed an immediate success for Sprint as the phone hit record sales within the first week and has sold out of many Sprint locations.

Even though the hot selling product helped … Read more

Buzz Out Loud 779: Ok A moo

Here at Buzz Out Loud, we are shamelessly attempting to launch a meme, based on the awesome Twitter ramblings of a guy stoned off his gourd at the dentist. Quick, somebody make a Café Press shirt! Also, today's show is rant-central, between the news that They can take our laptops for as long as They want for no reason, Apple's killing of a short-lived iPhone-tethering app, and the U.S. Congress' mandate that our nation's schools prop up our dying music industry. Judge misdials in Sprint ruling on early termination fees

A California state judge handed down a surprising and oddly reasoned verdict Thursday: Sprint Nextel's early termination fees for cell phone customers are illegal.

My colleague Maggie Reardon wrote an article about the 38-page ruling, which orders Sprint to pay $18.25 million to California customers who were charged termination fees. Customers charged fees who never paid them get a credit of $54.75 million.

You can imagine how much of this will go to the members of the supposed class that was harmed, and how much to the plaintiff's lawyers. In the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas … Read more

AT&T threatens WiMax joint venture

AT&T is looking to put a kibosh on the proposed merger of Sprint Nextel's nationwide WiMax assets with those of Clearwire.

On Thursday, the nation's largest phone company filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission, asking it to deny approval of the merger.

Sprint Nextel announced in May that it was teaming up with Clearwire to form a new joint venture that would combine both companies' WiMax assets to create a nationwide broadband wireless network. The deal, which has been valued at about $14.5 billion, is being backed by cable operators Comcast and Time … Read more
