Turkish coffee set delivers flavor and fun

I'm currently spending five weeks visiting my husband's family in Israel, and we're right in the middle of the holiday of Passover. As is traditional during the intermediate days of the week-long festival, yesterday we went on a day trip to get out and enjoy nature--and to eat. A lot. At the end of the day, after eating continuously for 7 hours, we decided to head to a nearby campground and roast marshmallows. And to drink? Well, Turkish coffee, of course.

Is that not what you generally drink with your toasted marshmallows? Well, you're missing out. … Read more

Grind and Brew coffeemaker keeps the coffee coming

I'm on a coffee kick. Of course, that's not saying much as I am usually on a coffee kick, and have been for a very long time. I, like many others, watched the country as people were introduced to what good coffee was. No longer did we have to suffer the mugs of cheap, flavorless corner store brew. Suddenly, there were half-decent options everywhere. Luckily, not only did coffee improve, but also coffee making. So in addition to being treated to more delicious options, there are also better ways to make coffee--and more specifically, keep it warm.

Cruise into morning coffee-making on autopilot

Making coffee is never an easy task to focus on early in the day. For some, myself included, mornings are a miserable mess until coffee has been introduced into the equation. The problem is that sometimes it can be difficult even to get to that point. Luckily, some smart folks got to thinking and integrated a timer into a coffeemaker. This one innovation certainly makes life easier for those of us who don't function well without the magical elixir.

The Cuisinart Coffee on Demand 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker offers the convenience needed by morning-challenged coffee lovers. With 24-hour programmability and … Read more

Cookies with coffee in mind

I have a bad habit of dunking my cookies in my tea, hot chocolate or even hot cider. There's just something about hot drinks and cookies that go together. I try to have at least a few cookies on hand whenever I serve coffee or tea, and the Coffee Cup Cookie Cutters add a little something special to those cookies--no matter how fast I had to whip them up. The cookies that these cutters make provide a handy notch so you can hang the cookies on the side of the mug: they're available in four different shapes that … Read more

A personal coffee press to help ease the daily grind

A good coffee press can ensure that your morning cup of coffee is perfect. Bodum offers a variety of coffee presses, but the star of its line is their original: the Chambord Coffee Press. It's an elegant design that lets you see exactly what's going on with your coffee through the glass accented with stainless steel. It holds 12 ounces, enough for three cups of coffee--you can get larger versions of the Chambord Coffee Press. However, that can lead to coffee sitting in the press, cooling, and acquiring the bitter flavor of old coffee. The only reason to … Read more

Yahoo is trying to fight off being accused of low morals by protecting some user data from being subpoenaed in Europe. We also have a couple rants involving Amazon caving to the publishers over text to speech and Sony saying they made the PS3 hard to develop for on purpose. Even without Molly, it's a kind of ranty Monday.

If you're in the mooood for coffee

As the years after my first sip of coffee have gone by, I've transitioned slowly into a full-blown coffee addict. My rushed morning cravings for the stuff on busy work days, however, haven't yet dulled the enjoyment that I get from sipping a slow cup on my days off--nothing beats a lazy late brunch with a full pot straight from the French press.

If I cook brunch for a group, then setting out coffee with a sugar bowl and creamer pitcher is a necessity, but even if I eat alone, leaving the sugar and milk separate until I'… Read more

Drink coffee like a real New Yorker

Living in New York, I get most of my coffee on the go. This means that I often feel the pangs of guilt that are associated with the amount of paper waste coming out of the city every day. I try to mitigate the problem by holding onto my cup through the day, refilling it with coffee or tea at work.

For hygienic reasons, this is probably not the best idea.

I use my French press religiously on the mornings that I can make time for it, but on my busy workdays, the coffee and bagel cart down the street … Read more
