New T-Mobile Sidekick set for July 30 debut

T-Mobile's latest Sidekick, code-named Gekko, will launch July 30 according to cell phone enthusiast blog The Boy Genius.

The blog said the new device will be an entry-level Sidekick "that won't break the bank." The new phone will supposedly sport a 2-megapixel camera, video recorder, stereo Bluetooth, and other standard Sidekick features, according to the blog. The Boy Genius has also posted some pictures it claims were leaked from T-Mobile.

It looks like the creative geniuses in Microsoft's product marketing team may have helped name the new device that will simply be called "Sidekick … Read more

A T-Mobile iPhone for $299

Though there's no shortage of places to buy an unlocked iPhone, I haven't seen many wireless stores that specialize in selling them. But last weekend, I came across a store in San Francisco's Civic Center (corner of Larkin and Golden Gate) that does just that. Not only will the store sell you an unlocked iPhone with the activation of a new T-Mobile account--all for just $299--but also it will unlock your current AT&T iPhone for you. Since it was Saturday and the day after Independence Day the store was closed, so I didn't get … Read more

Nokia 2760 now at T-Mobile

The Nokia 2760 is now for sale on T-Mobile's Web site. The simple flip phone doesn't offer much in the way of features, but the blue and silver design is appealing. Inside you'll find text and multimedia messaging, personal organizer features, a VGA camera, an FM radio, Bluetooth, and a speakerphone. That's a functional set of goodies but the dual-band support (GSM 850 and 1900) will limit the phone's roaming outside of North America. The 2760 is just $19.99 with service or $89.99 if you pay full price.

Smartphone rumors for everyone

It's summertime and things are heating up, and we don't necessarily mean the temperature (because it certainly isn't very hot here in San Francisco, but I digress). No, we're talking more about rise in smartphone rumors, which isn't uncommon for this time of year as the carrier's start prepping for the fall and holiday seasons. As such, the blogosphere is blowing up with speculation, and looks like there's something for every carrier. Now, we must reiterate that these are just rumors and obviously, the service providers and device manufacturers haven't confirmed anything, … Read more

Motorola Rokr E8 review

Five months after it nabbed two awards at CES, the Motorola Rokr E8 has landed at a U.S. carrier. It will go on sale July 7 for T-Mobile ($199 with service), but we got our hands on a review model this week to give it a full shakedown. It's always exciting when a new phone arrives in the CNET labs, particularly when it's a model that was born with lots of fanfare. After a couple days of poking and prodding, we can report that the Rokr E8 hits some high marks. Its music player performs well and … Read more

Motorola Rokr E8 to land at T-Mobile

Motorola's Rokr E8 will go on sale July 7. The phone will be available with T-Mobile for $199 with a two-year service contract. As you might remember, the Rokr E8 debuted five months ago at CES where it won CNET's Best of CES Award in the cell phone category and the People's Voice Award. Its main attraction is a "ModeShift" keypad that morphs depending on how the handset is used. As you shift from phone to music to imaging modes, the backlight on the control changes to illuminate only the relevant buttons for your current … Read more
