Photos: The sleek and sexy LG Prada

While it's certainly not a smart phone like the Apple iPhone promises to be, the LG Prada has still gained notoriety both in the gadget and fashion world as one of the most attractive handsets with a full touch screen display. After handling the phone for a few days, I have to agree: the LG Prada has a sleek and sexy design that people are sure to notice. Even though it has features like a 2.0-megapixel camera, a media player, and stereo Bluetooth, I'm not convinced it's worth spending $800 on. (For that price, I want … Read more

The latest convergence trend: fridge TVs

As we steam ahead toward the era of the fully digitized home, we didn't think that the term "convergence appliance" would mean a combo TV-fridge. In fact, we almost overlooked this latest example from LG, thinking that it was the Samsung model that appeared on Crave a few months ago. Little did we know that TV refrigerators were becoming a trend.

Cooling performance aside, the LG model boasts a 15-inch LCD vs. Samsung's 10.4-inch display, and it's even an HDTV. But we think it could have a fatal design flaw: Unlike Samsung's version, … Read more

Photos: LG rules the roost for V Cast Mobile TV

Crave got up close and personal with Verizon's latest cell phone for its new V Cast Mobile TV service. The LG VX9400 sports a unique form factor with a brilliant display that swivels up for comfortable viewing. Inside you'll find a host of features that are backed up by decent performance. Video sound quality could be a bit iffy at times, and the rotating display isn't conducive for making calls, but we like it better than the previous Samsung SCH-U620. For more, check out our VX9400 review and our slide show.

LG CU500V finally launches with AT&T branding

No, we're not pulling your leg--the LG CU500v has indeed launched after a premature announcement last week, complete with AT&T branding all over it. As you'll recall, this update to the LG CU500 incorporates something new for the U.S. cell phone market, namely video calling via Video Share. The video is transmitted only one way for now, but those with compatible handsets can switch the direction of the video. Also, the AT&T branding is not only visible from the exterior of the phone--several applications have also been rebranded. For example, Cingular Mail … Read more

The Cingular N75 is back

After a bit and back and forth last week the Nokia N75 is officially back on sale with AT&T/Cingular. Last Friday, the N75 popped onto the carrier's Web site, only to be removed moments later. Cingular never came clean on the cell-phone hokey pokey but the same thing happened to the LG CU500v. Now a week, later both the N75 and CU500v are back on sale. The N75 is $199 with service.

The LG CU500v is coming May 4th?

The story behind the release of the LG CU500v gets more confusing by the minute. Yesterday we saw this item on Engadget Mobile that indicates that the LG CU500v will actually debut on May 4th and that the April 27th "release" was premature. The page also noted that the device's branding will switch from Cingular to AT&T, as will everything else with the Cingular name (Cingular Mail becomes AT&T Mail, Cingular Music becomes AT&T Mobile Music, etc. However, Cingular Video will purportedly change its name to Cellular Video, which is presumably … Read more

Cingular/AT&T launches the LG CU500V--or not

Update: Mere hours after we posted this blog entry, we got the news that Cingular/AT&T has pulled down the LG CU500V from its site. So either someone jumped the gun and listed it early, or the site is experiencing some technical difficulties. Plus, it looks like the Nokia N75 is suffering from the same launch fake-out. What's up, AT&T? The following is the original blog entry prior to the take down:

AT&T has just launched the LG CU500V, which is the first phone to offer live mobile video calls in the U.… Read more

LG jumps on GPS bandwagon with three portable nav systems

You can now add LG Electronics to the growing list of consumer electronic companies entering the U.S. GPS market. First previewed at CES 2007, three portable navigation systems from LG are making their U.S. debut: the LG LN730, the LG LN735, and the LG LN740. Here's a quick breakdown of each device; they're all available now for purchase.

LG LN730: An entry-level system with North American maps and 1.7 million points of interest preloaded on the device. The unit is equipped with a SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and offers voice-guided directions, MP3 playback, and a photo … Read more

LG, VW: Weirdest cross-branding ever?

One minute you're reviewing a shiny new silver MP3 player. The next, you're staring at the thing in a bright red version. At least this was the case with LG, since it's skinning its lovely new FM37 player in the same colors as Volkswagen skins its new line of Beetles. That's right: a bright red, a sickly yellow and a "shadow" blue. There's VW branding on the face of the player, and a "New Beetle" car logo on the back.

The New Beetle FM37 has the same specs as the standard … Read more

Vacuum cleaner or robot superhero?

LG isn't fooling anyone. In developing its first vacuum cleaner, the electronics maker predictably touted all kinds of techie features, such as "a RotaBlade that is in the rocket shaped drum, which is attached to an additional motor moving side-to-side compacting household dust into solid cubes," according to Pocket-lint.

But we know the real strategy: It wanted the "Compressor Vacuum Cleaner" to look like a Transformer. And it's done a splendid job, by the way--at first glance, we were sure it was a new version of "Optimus Prime" or some other mechanical … Read more
