T-Mobile taking more pre-orders for sold-out G1

If you've been sulking around the past few days after hearing that the T-Mobile G1 has already sold out through pre-sale orders, here's some news that might cheer you up.

T-Mobile announced Friday that it will continue to take pre-orders for the G1 through October 21, though the Google Android smartphone won't be delivered by the official October 22 launch date. Rather the carrier has a target delivery date of November 10. Here is the official statement from T-Mobile:

"Given the great anticipation and the heavy pre-sale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google, we nearly … Read more

Best Buy to carry BlackBerry Pearl Flip, T-Mobile G1, Treo Pro

On Monday, we reported on some rumors that Best Buy would offer the RIM BlackBerry Bold (in addition to AT&T) after the Boy Genius Report site posted some screenshots of the retailer's computer system showing an October 26 in-stock date for the smartphone.

Well, it seems BGR has uncovered more information that suggests Best Buy will also carry the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, the Palm Treo Pro, and the T-Mobile G1.

T-Mobile's Motorola Active

Motorola took the wraps off its new Active W450 handset for T-Mobile on Wednesday. The flip phone features a durable design, with rubber sidings for those with (dare we say) active lifestyles. On the outside, you'll find a standard white-and-black color scheme, but on the inside, the phone features a rubberized keypad in either yellow or orange.

Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera with an 8x zoom and video capture, a digital music player, a wireless Web browser, a microSD-card slot, USB mass storage, PC syncing, Bluetooth (no stereo profile), personal-organizer applications, and a speakerphone. Also, the W490 is … Read more

T-Mobile starts 3G in San Francisco

T-Mobile turned on its growing 3G network in San Francisco on Tuesday. The Bay Area is the 20th market to get 3G service, and (naturally) it's one addition that excites us. By the end of the year, the carrier has said it hopes to expand to 27 cities.

Currently, T-Mobile operates its 3G network in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle. While the list continues to grow, it's imperative that T-Mobile expands its network and lineup … Read more

T-Mobile stops taking Android phone orders

It looks like T-Mobile customers trying to get one of the initial models of the first phones powered by Google's Android operating system will have to wait a bit longer.

"Sorry! Due to the overwhelming popularity of the new T-Mobile G1, upgrades are temporarily unavailable. Please try again later," the T-Mobile pre-order page told people who tried to sign up for the phone on Saturday, according to the Android Guys blog.

The G1 phone, built by HTC, was announced Tuesday and goes on sale October 22. The price is $179.99 for those who sign up for … Read more

Q: I've been looking into getting the Nokia E71, but can't justify the price. Have you heard anything on it becoming available with a U.S. carrier. Also, a whole other box of worms, if you purchase an unlocked E71, are you mandated to a contract? --James via e-mail

A: James, you are not alone. I get quite a few number e-mails about the Nokia E71 and it's really no surprise why. It's a great smartphone that's loaded with features for the mobile professional, and it's packaged in a sleek little frame. Unfortunately, I … Read more

T-Mobile caves on 1GB data limit for G1

T-Mobile has given its data usage cap proposed for the G1 Android phone a second thought.

The company distributed a statement Wednesday saying that it has removed the 1GB "soft cap" that it planned to impose on the data usage of G1 owners starting next month when the device is released. The carrier had planned to throttle the data connection speed to a paltry 50Kbps for those who exceeded 1GB of data usage in a month, which isn't that far-fetched for the early-adopter crowd.

Here's the full statement:

"Our goal, when the T-Mobile G1 becomes … Read more
