LG KF600 reads your mind

In addition to the LG KF700, LG Electronics debuted the LG KF600 at GSMA 2008, another touch-screen cell phone--hmm, I'm detecting a theme here. Not to be outdone by its bigger brother, the KF600 has plenty of flash of its own and is actually the GSM cousin of the LG Venus, which we reviewed earlier.

The upper half of the phone consists of a 2-inch, 262,000 color non-touch screen, while there's a 1.5-inch touch screen on the lower half. The latter is actually called the InteractPad and displays your main menu items as well as certain … Read more

LG's GPS-enabled KT610 Symbian smartphone

LG Electronics wasn't just about flash and touch screen phones at GSMA Mobile World Congress this year. The company also launched the LG KT610, a Symbian smartphone with integrated GPS to meet the needs of its business customers. The KT610 sports a candy-bar-style form factor that opens up to reveal a 2.4-inch screen and full QWERTY keyboard. There's also a small display and alphanumeric keypad on the exterior of the phone. Inside, the machine is running Symbian OS 9.2 (S60 3rd Edition) and is HSDPA capable. Push e-mail, a full Web browser, and multimedia capabilities are … Read more

GSMA Day 1 Wrap-Up

February 11 has come and gone, and it turned out to be a busy first day at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Before the show even began, Senior Editor Kent German gave us a little preview of the convention scene, and Bonnie Cha tells us her woeful tale of her stolen wallet. But work must go on, and Kent managed to get a hands on with the Samsung Soul, a slider handset packed with HSDPA, a 5-megapixel camera, and a new navigation pad with a display that changes its icons depending on what feature is being used.… Read more

Hands-on with LG's Symbian sat-nav phone

In an attempt to beat the masses of handset announcements that came out today, LG announced a new candybar smart phone yesterday that not only comes with GPS but also packs full Qwerty keypad and a standard one to boot too--it's called the LG KT610.

On the front you get a small screen and standard keypad, but flip the KT610 open and you're presented with a full Qwerty keypad and medium-sized screen.

Interestingly, the KT610 runs on Symbian OS v9.2 and S60 3rd Edition Feature pack 1--the same operating system as many Nokia smartphones. The advantage of … Read more

LG KS20: Windows Mobile without the bulk

LG has launched its first Windows Mobile 6 phone and, if it were a cake, all the fat people would be queueing up around the block to get their hands on not just one, but a whole box. Arms would flail, rolls of gadget-obsessed fat would bounce around and almost everyone would come away injured. And hungry. But LG won't care because it'll be too busy telling the world about this Prada-esque beaut--the KS20.

With it's big ol' touch-sensitive screen, its push e-mail support, its gloriously fast HSDPA connectivity, and its divine styling, it's not … Read more

LG KF510: LG's new glass-fronted hotness

As if the KF700 and KF600 weren't snazzy enough to snag your entire quota of gadget love, LG has thrown another contender into this vicious and competitive arena, and it sure makes us wish we were a girl phone so we could get some "bow chicka wow wow" with his royal sexiness. It is of course the LG KF510.

This is a phone that makes other phones listen to My Chemical Romance and cry about how inadequate they are in comparison to their equally emotional friends. It's the phone that would take pictures of themselves at … Read more

EQO dials up cheap international mobile calls

If you've got family and friends sprinkled about the globe, you know that the richness of these contacts loses luster if you can't regularly keep in touch. Though there are excellent solutions out there--local-access calling cards, VoIP on the PC, VoIP phones from Vonage or Skype, and local-number services like Talkster (review)--they require your presence at home, new hardware, or wasting precious seconds with mile-long pin numbers or droning ads.

Challenging the herd is EQO (pronounced "echo"), a communication service that offers a simple, fast, and affordable solution for international outreach on your cell phone. Talk time and texting are free between EQO members, and calls are as cheap as 2 cents per minute for everyone else, about the same rate as VoIP-to-phone calling and competitive calling cards. EQO's international texting costs for 10- or 15 cents, depending on the countries of destination and departure.

User experience

The graphically-appealing application is divided into three sections, each delineated by a small icon along a top strip. Scrolling horizontally among them calls up the phone book, message inbox, or instant message interface. EQO imports phone contacts into the phone book, but be careful of your management--deleting an entry from EQO also deletes it from the phone's database.… Read more

Alltel gets the Scoop with three new phones

Alltel added three cell phones to its growing lineup today. In addition to picking up its a red version of the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130, the nation's fifth-largest carrier also added its take on the LG Rumor (the LG Scoop that we saw at CES) and the new Samsung Muse.

Alltel's Pearl is identical to not only its existing 8130 but also to the Pearls from Verizon Wireless and Sprint. Inside you'll find the full set of BlackBerry features plus a 2-megeapixel camera. Likewise, the Scoop is largely similar to Sprint's Rumor. Features on the messaging-centric … Read more

AT&T's Mobile TV service to debut with the LG Vu?

If leaked sources are to be believed, AT&T may break out a new mobile TV service courtesy of Qualcomm's MediaFLO in the form of the very sleek and sexy LG Vu. RCR Wireless News reports that AT&T is going to launch the live broadcast service with two exclusive channels as early as February 5. Prada is happy to go for the silver

It will take more than the iPhone for Europeans to give up on Prada. Even with a price tag approaching $900, more than 700,000 of the touch-screen designer handsets have reportedly been sold.

It was only a matter of time, therefore, that LG followed the traditional path taken by all luxury phone makers: put out a special edition. Slated for 18 continental countries, the "Silver Edition" will come with a QWERTY keyboard and a bevy of accoutrements, including a matching pair of earphones and a leather case, acccording to MobileWhack.

It just goes to show that, once … Read more
