Wii U game lineup punctuated by New Super Mario Bros. U

Surprise, surprise: Nintendo will be launching a Super Mario title for Wii U.

Dubbed New Super Mario Bros. U, the game is designed to take advantage of Nintendo's social platform, Miiverse. In fact, the company says that the title will have a "real-time social window" in-game as the person is playing, and will connect with others.

Aside from that, the title appears to be the typical Mario experience, complete with users being able to jump and fly around levels. Nintendo only showed off a trailer for the title, and did not spend any time actually playing the … Read more

Nintendo: Wii U will support dual gamepads

Nintendo's Wii U will support two Gamepads, the company announced today.

When the Wii U was first announced last year, Nintendo vaguely indicated that its console could support only one Gamepad. However, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said today at his company's E3 keynote that it'll actually support two Gamepads.

The Wii U Gamepad, which Nintendo showed off earlier this week, will ship with a 6.2-inch touchscreen and a stylus for additional input options. Microsoft has a new gaming handheld...and it's the iPad

LOS ANGELES--You can forget about your dreams of an Xbox 360 Portable. That's so 2006. No, at this year's E3, Microsoft did something much more surprising: instead of getting proprietary, it hopped on everyone else's platform instead.

Xbox SmartGlass was the touted application, service, technology -- whatever you want to call it -- that stood for a new product at Microsoft's E3 press conference this morning in Los Angeles. It needed some jolt of new produce excitement, arguably, and SmartGlass can stand in as this year's "what is that?" buzzword, a second-screen concept for turning seemingly any smartphone or tablet into an additional display when watching movies, playing games, or browsing online. … Read more

Xbox throws down gauntlet to Apple TV (and Wii U) at E3

Will the future of the living room come to a Microsoft-Apple throwdown? It's certainly looking like it.

LOS ANGELES--Microsoft's SmartGlass app for tablets is fascinating not just because it adds a second screen to the Xbox 360, but also because it's platform-agnostic: it'll work on Android or an iPad, it seems, just as easily as Windows. Add in Internet Explorer for the Xbox 360 and a bevy of new entertainment video apps, and it's pretty clear: the Xbox 360 is ready to take on Apple TV.
