Apple could sell anywhere between 1 million and 1.5 million iPad Minis over the weekend, according to Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster.

In an investors note out yesterday, Munster noted that the projection is low compared with the 3 million 3rd-generation iPads sold during that product's opening weekend last March. The iPad Mini debuts today in 34 different countries, while the 3rd-gen iPad initially reached just 10 countries.

Anyone attempting to repair Apple's 4th-gen iPad will face a rough job, according to the folks at iFixit.

Examining the innards of the iPad 4, the fixit site found that the unit is glued shut through adhesive. Taking apart the tablet required iFixit to apply heat to soften the adhesive and then pry it open with guitar picks, which fortunately didn't damage the device.

The iPad Mini will cause major agita for Windows 8 device makers, according to Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu.

In an investor's note out yesterday, Wu said that the iPad's main rivals are not 7-inch Android tablets, as other analysts have asserted, but rather Windows 8 PCs and tablets.

"We continue to believe iPad Mini is the competition's worst nightmare and will likely slow down adoption of competitor tablets," Wu said in the note. "In particular, we believe this could end up being a very tough holiday season for Windows 8."

Apple's new iPad Mini does have two stereo speakers, despite Amazon's attempt to fudge the facts.

On Sunday, the retail giant unveiled a comparison chart on its home page pitting its own Kindle Fire HD against Apple's iPad Mini. With all the stats stacked in favor of the Kindle, Amazon said that its tablet offers dual stereo speakers while the iPad Mini is stuck with just mono sound.

Though Amazon has since taken down the chart from its home page, another chart contrasting the two 7-inch rivals now says the iPad Mini has a single speaker.

According to Path, the app was built from the ground up and supports both landscape and portrait orientations. Path is especially excited about the landscape orientation, saying that it will provide a full collage of the day's events in a single pane, thanks to the iPad's larger screen screen size. A new display technology being tested in Japan could eventually allow mobile users to stack up smartphones and tablets to create one, big display.

Dubbed "Pinch," the software is being developed at the Tokyo University of Technology. According to Diginfo, which was first to report on the news, users can place smartphones or tablets next to each other in any way they wish, and by using a simple "pinch" motion, link the two displays to create one larger screen.

Asus Chief Financial Officer David Chang says that the company is selling close to 1 million Nexus 7 tablets a month.

Although Google has not released the official sales figures for its 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet, following Tuesday's declaration of Asus' third-quarter earnings yesterday the Taiwanese electronics maker managed to beat the most optimistic estimates. Asus said that its notebook computer range was performing steadily at roughly 5 million shipments per month, but tablet sales jumped from 800,000 in the second quarter to 2.3 million shipments in the third quarter.
