Pantech Slate is slim on design and on features

Thin phones just never seem to fade away, even when it comes to the latest trend of messaging phones. Take the Pantech Slate, for instance. Pantech claims the Slate is the world's thinnest messaging phone at around 0.38 inch thick, which isn't too much of a stretch considering there aren't too many of these messaging phones around in the first place.

Still, we like its slender design and we found the keyboard to be very spacious and the raised keys are quite conducive to typing out quick text messages. The Slate doesn't have much else … Read more

AT&T starts selling the Pantech Slate

The Pantech Slate, which AT&T claims is the world's thinnest QWERTY mobile phone, officially met the public when AT&T started selling the handset Wednesday. No word from AT&T yet how many units it has sold, but when your other selections include the iPhone and Palm Centro, we can't expect this tiny unit to be a door buster.

The Slate has a 1.3-megapixel camera, 2.5G (Edge) connectivity for data, and Bluetooth. It's not for everyone, and we can't really call it a smartphone, but for people who text often, … Read more

Pantech goes thin with the Slate

Along with the Pantech Matrix, Pantech and AT&T have also launched the Pantech Slate, which the company claims to be the world's thinnest device with a full QWERTY keyboard. It doesn't have 3G or any fancy multimedia offerings, but it does have a 1.3-megapixel camera, instant messaging, email, and Bluetooth.

It will be available in black in late October for $49.99 after a two-year agreement.

Stone turntable takes a cue from Bedrock

These turntables remind us of those stone wheels on the cars they drove in the Flintstones. Why? Take a closer look at the photo. The base is made of "non-resonating stone."

Combined with the super-thick synthetic platters on top of them, the stone plinths and supports are designed to reduce vibration and improve contact with the vinyl, according to Audio Junkies. Like the Flintmobile they're lovingly handmade, by Italy's Thesis Audio, in three models. (The full stone chassis pictured here is available only on the top-of-the-line Amalthea.) Foot brakes not included.
