iPod Shuffle case with bottle opener: It's about time!

This is one of those accessories that made me think, "Wow, I'm surprised nobody came up with this before." The Bevy case for the iPod Shuffle, manufactured by Mophie, is a key ring that holds your itty bitty music player, lets you neatly wrap your earbud cord around it when you're not listening in, and throws in a bottle opener for good measure. Yes, a bottle opener.

It's actually the product of a design competition that took place at Macworld earlier this year.

Personally, I think attaching the Shuffle to a set of keys is … Read more

Oxymoronic wireless headphones for Apple's iPod Shuffle II

Back in March, I reviewed Arriva's sports headphones, which feature a unique cord design that does a remarkable job of keeping the headphones' earbuds securely in your ears. The fledgling company hinted that it would be creating "wireless" headphones for Apple's second-generation iPod Shuffle, and we now have our first concept photo of what the headphones will look like. The irony is that the headphones aren't wireless in the traditional sense (Bluetooth, IR, or RF), but they simply have the tiny Shuffle II integrated into the headphones at the back of your neck.

Accel Partners snaps up Yahoo search VP

VentureBeat is reporting that Andrew Braccia, Yahoo's vice president of consumer search, started Monday in a new line of work as a principal at venture capital firm Accel Partners.

Braccia "quietly quit" his post at Yahoo, where he had worked since 1998, earlier this month, VentureBeat reports. At Yahoo, he had been a major player in the development of Yahoo Answers, the company's successful Q&A service.

According to the VentureBeat article, Braccia "says he's passionate about the consumer Internet, and says he believes we're still at the very early stages of … Read more

Siren wants to make a little noise

As MP3 players continue to shrink into nanodom, it only makes sense that they should be designed as wearable objects or even fine jewelry. Repackaging is a longstanding marketing practice anyway, especially when technologies begin to enter the commodity phase of their life cycle.

The latest MP3 player from Siren won't be mistaken for anything at Tiffany's, but it is easily wearable at just under 1 ounce--a tad heavier than the newest Shuffle (if you can call any of these tiny things "heavy"). And as Ministry of Tech notes, the DAP100 does have twice the storage capacityRead more

Apple's portable fashion

Just when you thought the ubiquitous iPod Shuffle couldn't get any smaller, Apple showed us all by releasing its second-generation Shuffle. Of course, that's not good enough for Apple, which has just unveiled a multifarious array of colors to delight even the most fashion conscious music lover. At a price under $100, who wouldn't want to say goodbye to their current, bulky Shuffle and move on up into the world of color? Of course, if iPods aren't your cup of tea, there are plenty of excellent alternatives.

iPod Shuffle gets new colors, better headphones

Apple's iPod Shuffle music player is now available in four new colors. The previously available silver Shuffle has now been joined by pink, green, blue, and orange models. Furthermore, iLounge reported that each Shuffle model will be packaged with the same improved earbuds that have been shipping with other iPod models for the past several months. (To date, the silver Shuffle model was shipped with Apple's older earbuds.)

Other than the color choices and headphone upgrade, it's the same entry-level second-generation iPod Shuffle that debuted in November: capacity remains at 1GB, and the price is still $79. … Read more

Sansa vs. the Shuffle

As we've seen in Las Vegas and elsewhere recently, SanDisk's Sansa is coming out with some of the more innovative and practical personal technologies--a combination that seems increasingly rare these days. The latest example is the "Sansa Xpress," which Chip Chick says has every reason to give the iPod Shuffle a run for its money with 1GB of memory, a 15-hour battery, built-in microphone and FM tuner. We think the best feature is its direct USB connection, but that may be because we have a thing for SanDisk's design sense (and the Xpress' $60 price … Read more

Tiny dock for the tiny Shuffle

Few times have so many accessories come out so quickly for something so small. That's just one distinction that belongs to the iPod Shuffle, as evidenced by this Marware travel dock that plugs directly into a USB port, according to iLounge. But if you're really trying to save space--after all, isn't that what the Shuffle is all about?--you might want to consider the IncipioBud, which forgoes the need for a dock altogether.

New gear for iPodsters on the go

Just minutes after having noted that laptops face relative neglect when it comes to protective products, we got notice of yet another an iPod safety accessory--thereby proving our point once again. But to show we're not bitter, we're passing along DLO's "Action Jacket" for the Shuffle, a strap-on case for Shufflers on the go.

Ultra-mobile podsters will probably also appreciate the "Power Bug" announced at the same time, a "compact, fold-away" charger that plugs into the wall. It should be noted that DLO isn't just any iPod accessory bandwagon-jumper: Months … Read more

iPod-Chocolate love-hate saga, part deux

Awhile back we posted an item on a product that could have been the offspring of an iPod-Chocolate union, from a company that produces neither. But LG apparently had such romantic leanings already, for it has given birth to the lovingly named "UP3Flat," a screen-less Chocolate MP3 player that appears aimed at the iPod Shuffle market.

Our cousins at Crave UK describe it this way: "It's about the same size as a lighter and sports a sumptupuous 'piano-black' finish. Its silver volume buttons take the place of the red touch-sensitive navigation buttons on the Chocolate phone.&… Read more
