You've got it covered

Ashampoo Cover Studio is a versatile program that allows user to create cover art for CDs, DVDs, and other media in a variety of formats. We liked that the program contains both attractive templates and plenty of options for user customization.

The program's interface isn't the most intuitive thing we've ever seen, but on the whole, it's attractive and pretty easy to figure out. Users first choose from among several cover formats, including cases and booklets for DVDs and jewel cases and slim cases for CDs. After that the program walks users through each step of … Read more

Watermark it!

Bytescout Watermarking embeds custom watermarks in digital images. You can protect your pictures from right-clicking thieves with this easy-to-use program, but it also has a several other useful tricks up its sleeve.

The program's interface is clean, functional, and easy to navigate. The question mark icon at the top right opens the Help file. You can select single files or a whole folder of files to watermark. Underneath the Advanced tab, you can fine-tune the position of the watermark, which is handy for preventing it from covering up something important in the photo. You can orient watermarks vertically, horizontally, … Read more

The program's interface is a breeze to manage, thanks to its single-screen navigation and clearly labeled commands. We were easily able to customize our labels to fit several different styles of CD and DVD cases, though, oddly, not the actual discs themselves. … Read more

As expected Warner Music, YouTube make up

YouTube and Warner Music Group, the third largest recording company have patched up their differences and signed a licensing agreement that will bring Warner's songs back to the video site sometime in the next few months.

Nine months ago Warner's music was pulled from YouTube after the two companies couldn't agree on a new licensing arrangement. Not only were music videos removed but users also were prevented from including Warner songs in their own clips. This led to a major backlash against the label by users.

The renewed agreement is old news now. CNET first reported that … Read more

Portable Braille printer makes labeling a snap

A group of engineering students has developed a portable, low-cost Braille printer that lets the blind and visually impaired easily label objects that feel similar to the touch, like DVDs.

The 6dot Braille Labelmaker is cheaper and easier to use than other label makers, according to the students from MIT, the University of Toronto, and Stanford University. Still in development, it might cost as little as $200 when released, less than half the cost of some other Braille label makers.

Users push six keys on the ergonomic device--one for each of the dots that make up a Braille character--to emboss … Read more

Versatile label creator

Label Flow helps create labels with its instinctive program. By providing a well-planned layout and a seemingly endless supply of labels, this program will meet shipping needs.

We jumped immediately into the program thanks to its intuitive wizard, which makes the interface a breeze to deal with. The strongest aspect of the wizard was its selection of labels. We were impressed that every brand from Avery to Wal-Mart was represented and couldn't imagine a brand name or label type not included. We eased through the entry fields for standard label additions like addresses and names, but were pleasantly surprised … Read more

Powerful label creator

Label Spirit Simple is a powerful label maker that allows users to create labels with text, images, bar codes, and more. Although the program is a bit confusing at first, the program offers many options for label creation.

The program's interface is not particularly intuitive. The program is separated into two components--Label Edit and Label Print--and it is not readily apparent what either of these does. The Print interface in particular is confusing, with lots of little unfamiliar things crowded into the top of the screen. This is unfortunate, because the interface is otherwise quite sleek, and the look … Read more
