Hyundai Elantra Coupe drops a pair of doors, GT gains one

The Elantra Touring version of Hyundai's previous-generation compact was (and remains) one of our favorite small, cheap wagons.

So, we're not surprised to see a five-door variant of the current-generation Hyundai Elantra debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. What you may not have seen coming was the coupe version of Hyundai's fluidically sculptured sedan but that, too, was unwrapped at the show.

The Elantra Coupe doesn't differ dramatically from the Elantra Sedan we tested last year. In fact, about the only measurable differences are the removal of a pair of doors and the addition of … Read more

Microsoft's CES floor space for 2013 sold in just 45 minutes

The Consumer Electronics Show may be able to do just fine without Microsoft.

The software giant's former prime floor location at the tech confab sold during the first day of 2013 space selection in an "amazingly quick" 45 minutes, a source close the conference told CNET. The space was sold to Dish and Chinese electronics maker Hisense for the same price Microsoft would have paid had it opted to attend next year's show, the source said.

Space selection for the 2013 CES, which began today, is a three-day process, so it's unknown how many exhibitors … Read more

Cadillac tries small luxury with 2013 ATS

DETROIT--Cadillac returned to smaller luxury cars today with the unveiling of the 2013 ATS, a compact sedan that's meant to go head-to-head with rivals from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.

Following the announcement of the larger XTS a few months ago, the luxury arm of General Motors took the wraps off the ATS at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, describing the compact luxury class as central to its competitiveness.

Weighing less than 3,400 pounds, the ATS has options including a new 2-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's rated at 270 horsepower and the popular 3.6L V-6 … Read more

Create 3D images from one or two pics with Free 3D Photo Maker

Free 3D Photo Maker is an easy-to-use tool for creating 3D still images by combining two images or processing a single image. It offers several 3D image algorithms and several interface language choices, but most of what it does is automatic. To view the 3D effects it creates, you'll need a pair of anaglyph glasses. Don't worry, you probably already have as pair somewhere; we're talking about those paper-framed glasses with different colored lenses that you used to get at 3D movies.

Free 3D Photo Maker has a simple user interface based around side-by-side image displays with … Read more

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe goes for the full monty on Facebook

Just days after Hyundai gave us our first official teaser for the redesigned Genesis Coupe, the automaker goes and gives us the full monty on its worldwide Facebook page.

The wider shots give us a full view of the new, Veloster-fied front end. This is also the clearest looks yet at the hood sculpting and vents. It's difficult to tell whether those vents are functional, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more form than function to be found there. We can also get an idea of how the new front end will work with the rest … Read more

Windows-on-Intel tablet share small for near future

Windows tablets running on Intel processors are not expected to take significant market share from market leader ARM for at least a couple of years, according to market research firm DisplaySearch.

In 2012, Windows tablets running on X86 chips--which are predominately Intel--should garner only about 1.8 percent of the market or about 1.8 million units out of a total market of 100 million units, according to Richard Shim of DisplaySearch, which issued a report today. Most of these tablets will use Intel's Atom processor, Shim said.

This will improve slightly in 2013 with 3.1 million Windows … Read more

A clearer look at the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe

This isn't the first leaked look at the upcoming update to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe that we've seen, but it's definitely the clearest.

The headlamps, fog lamps, and general grille shape echo the design direction of the upcoming Hyundai Veloster sport compact, but with less visual complexity. On the other hand, the hood vents, which are more clearly visible here than in any previous spy shot, in my opinion, don't do the new Coupe any favors. Also, we've yet to see a clear shot of what the rear end's changes (if any) will look … Read more

Hyundai Genesis Coupe's new nose: Hot or not?

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is due for a visual refresh at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show. But rather than wait a few weeks for a peek at the refresh, why not have a nice long look at this batch of "fresh pictures from Korea" unleashed onto the Internet by a source on a Genesis Coupe enthusiast site.

The blurry camera phone pictures reveal that the Coupe's face has been nipped and tucked to resemble that of the upcoming Veloster sporty hatchback. The massive hexagonal grille is certainly more aggressive than the current models, and the hood gains … Read more

Ford unwraps the 2013 Taurus SHO

Ford and Sony threw a party and somewhere along the way unveiled a new car. That's how the automaker and consumer electronics supplier's pre-New York auto show event felt. After building a bit of suspense, the cover was pulled back on the new 2013 Ford Taurus SHO. A few specs were shared, a bit of praise hefted on the sedan, but whole event seemed to have more to do with the show that followed the unveiling than it did the SHO itself.

The new Taurus SHO--which will go into production in 2012, bearing a 2013 model year designation--features … Read more
