The device will be T-Mobile's first Kyocera handset, but it'll only be offered through the carrier's business-to-business market.
Aside from being able to survive a meter-deep swim underwater for 30 minutes, the phone also has 4G LTE connectivity and a 4-inch WVGA display.
In addition, it features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, expandable memory, and a 2,000mAh battery that managed 5.53 hours of continuous video playback during our battery drain test.… Read more
Nokia's Refocus Windows Phone application is now available, the company announced on Wednesday.
Microsoft's Windows Phone store is offering the free app, which allows users to snap a photo and then adjust the depth of field -- in other words, choose which parts of the image are clear and which segments are out of focus. The application also includes support for "Color Pop," a feature that allows users to turn on color in one section of the image and turn the rest of it to black-and-white.
Nokia's Refocus app isn't available across all Windows … Read more

Every Sprint smartphone released next year will be able to pick up the three different spectrum frequencies the carrier runs, allowing for a much speedier connection and high-definition voice.
Well, almost every phone.
That's according to Sprint Chief Financial Officer Joe Euteneuer, who was speaking at an investor conference on Wednesday. The exception, which Euteneuer was sure to point out, was Apple. He only noted that he doesn't know what Apple is doing with the next iPhone, or whether it will jam in compatibility with all three frequencies.
The triband capability is critical to improving the speeds on … Read more
Dow Draper has his work cut out for him.
As the new president of Sprint's prepaid business, Draper is tasked with reversing the slowing growth of its no-contract business -- primarily its Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile arms -- as well as contend with a resurgent prepaid business from AT&T and an increasingly loud rival in T-Mobile.
One way to ignite some excitement in prepaid is to tackle a long-standing issue in prepaid: the need to pay the full price of a device. While that's less of an issue for basic phones and budget Android smartphones, … Read more

Verizon Wireless is feeling the crush of all of those LTE-enabled devices on its network.
The carrier said it is facing pressure to deliver increased amounts of bandwidth in big cities such as New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. In a rare admission on Tuesday, Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo admitted the rapid growth in traffic was starting to hamper the quality of the service.
"There are certain pockets where we're absolutely going to experience that down tick from the LTE network down to 3G because of capacity constraints," Shammo said during an investor conference.

The jumbo BlackBerry Z30 hits Verizon Wireless on Thursday, but customers will have to go online to buy one.
Verizon on Tuesday said that BlackBerry's jumbo Z30 will be available online in two days.
It's a muted release for Verizon, which is the "exclusive launch partner" for the Z30. It's likely Verizon is the exclusive partner because it is the only carrier to express interest in the product.
The Z30, which comes with a 5-inch display, could very well be the last BlackBerry to be marketed toward consumers -- or be the last BlackBerry at … Read more
