Hot Chelle Rae isn't a household name yet, but it's not for want of trying. The rockin' Nashville four-piece, best known for multi-platinum singles "Tonight Tonight" and "I Like It Like That," off their sophomore album "Whatever" (which guaranteed them a Best New Artist win in 2011), have toured with some of the biggest artists, from Demi Lovato to Taylor Swift. They're currently playing to tens of thousands of fans a night on the Justin Bieber "Believe Tour," which kicked off last month. But they have yet to go … Read more
If the Kardashians are America's first family, then Rob Kardashian is their golden boy. An iPhone application that allows users to record their screens, including screen activity while using third-party apps on your phone, has managed to sneak onto the App Store.
xRec, which was published on Saturday and costs $1.99 on (iTunes), can record screen activity in its entirety. The software requires an active Internet connection to work and, according to tech site Giga (Google Translate), uses code from jailbreak app RecordMyScreen, which offers a similar feature set and user interface.
The app shows a red, pulsing bar at … Read more
Just a few days after Apple acquired transit and directions service Hopstop, the company's Windows Phone application has gone missing.
Hopstop for Windows Phone was available to users last week, but the application is no longer offered to Windows Phone users. In fact, a listing on the Windows Phone marketplace says that "this app is no longer published." No explanation has been given.
Still, it's not a leap to believe that Apple might have something to do with the disappearance. The company confirmed late last week that it has acquired Hopstop for an undisclosed sum. In … Read more
Apple is set to release an updated version of its Apple Store app for the iPhone and iPod Touch on Tuesday that will promote content from the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore, with some of it free for a limited time, a report says.
Blog 9to5 Mac cites an unnamed source in reporting that the new app has been tweaked to be more in keeping with the interfaces of the iOS 6 versions of the three aforementioned content apps and to promote those apps. It's also, of course, meant to juice direct-from-Apple sales of the iPhone and other hardware.… Read more
I grew up playing Sierra On-Line's graphic adventure games: King's Quest, Space Quest, and especially Leisure Suit Larry, which to my teenage tastes offered the perfect blend of sophomoric humor and sexy-time pursuits.
Proof positive that old games never die, they just get updated and ported to new platforms, Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded debuted last month for Windows, Mac, and Linux. And now the lounge lizard's reboot has come to iOS (with an Android version imminent).… Read more
Google Maps version 2.0 rolled out Wednesday morning, almost a week after the updated Android debut. The update finally brings G. Maps to the big(ger) screen, plus a plethora of welcome features. Here are some you should keep an eye out for.
It seems like the big G is butting heads with rivals, Yelp and Foursquare with its Explore function. Instead of inputting a destination, you can pull down the touch keyboard to see the Explore panel. Explore gives you five different options of Eat, Drink, Shop, Play, and Sleep. Each Explore option will pull up … Read more
It's been quite a week for news that starts with the word "smart."
Eric Schmidt was caught last week holding the rumored Moto X smartphone, which opened the flood gates of speculation: When will it come out? Who will carry it? What're the specs?
A leaked alleged release schedule, though, claims to have an answer to at least one of those questions. The Moto X, along with the HTC One, will arrive at Verizon next month.
The smartwatch train is a fast-moving one, and everyone's trying to jump aboard. A new rumor claims that Microsoft is hard at work on a smartwatch of its own, and has put the Surface team on the case. And Apple, not to be outdone, is supposedly "aggressively" hiring people for its iWatch team. … Read more

BitTorrent's Sync decentralized file-synchronization tool has entered beta status, and offers a number of enhancements, including support for mobile devices as well as a new versioning feature called SyncArchive.
Following months of closed testing, on April 23, 2013, BitTorrent released a public alpha version of its Sync software, a cross-platform competing service to online storage and synchronization solutions such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and Apple's iCloud. Unlike its competitors, Sync approaches synchronization using the decentralized BitTorrent peer-to-peer (P2P) network, which avoids the need for hosted storage space as a transfer medium, and instead keeps paired folders directly synced … Read more
