A grill with a new look

Originally created as an easy-to-use outdoor fireplace, the addition of a grill makes the Fireplate a unique way to cook meals outdoors. The Fireplate stands approximately 8 inches off the ground, and is available in options that stretch approximately 30 and 40 inches across. It's constructed from black varnished steel, allowing you to set up a fireplace anywhere that strikes your fancy. There's no worry of a fire getting out of control, even if you choose to set the Fireplate up on your deck. A metal rod extends upward from the fireplace, holding a stainless steel grill over … Read more

Take the grilling party wherever you happen to go

Grilling on the go is as good as it gets. Fresh air, (hopefully) sunshine, good times, and platters full of delicious grilled foods. Problem is, most grills aren't built for portability. While many grills are small in size, the actual transportation of them can be difficult and even messy. However, there is at least one grill out there that takes portability to a whole new level.

You don't have to keep the Margaritaville Ride-Behind Tailgating Propane Grill attached to the back of your vehicle, but you certainly could. Connecting to standard 2-inch hitch receiver, the grill goes wherever … Read more

Big barbecue flavor from a small package

If you've been to enough backyard cookouts, then you've probably borne witness to the unspoken competition between barbecue hosts that has them gushing about "whose grill is biggest."

The conversation generally plays out as follows:

"Hey, Jim. I see you bought the Cookout King 2000. How many dogs can you fit on it?"

"Thanks, Steve. Four packs at a time."

"Not bad, Jim. I just bought the Grill-O-Matic 3500. I can squeeze on four packs plus a roll of hamburgers and a bag of buns."

"Wow, Steve. You're … Read more

Indoor grill for setting and forgetting

"Set it and forget it" was a popular (or at least famous) infomercial catch phrase for a Ron Popeil device, but apparently "Set & Forget" doesn't fall under Ronco umbrella of catchphrases ("Now how much would you pay?"). By removing the "it," Hamilton Beach may (or may not) have separated themselves from the original, but the fact that this indoor grill makes use of an integrated temperature probe is certainly catchy to some extent.

The Set & Forget? Indoor Grill may not have anything to do with the famous pitchman, but … Read more

Thats-a spicy (chargrilled) meat-a-ball

Growing up as the granddaughter of an old-world Italian grandmother, I developed a healthy appreciation for all Italian food. I'm also, however, the kind of American who loves a backyard barbecue, and I've found that those two worlds aren't always compatible. Although I've indulged more than once in pizza from the grill, it's rare that you find other Italian favorites like pastas or lasagna on the grill, and one staple that is regrettably absent from most outdoor grills is meatballs.

If you think about it, outside of the shape, how are meatballs all that much … Read more

Mesh grill basket prevents 'grate' losses

One of my favorite things to grill are vegetables. The problem with grilled vegetables, however, is that they need to be sliced so large in order to rest comfortably on the grates that they sometimes don't cook properly. Onions end up with deliciously caramelized exteriors and disappointingly onion-y centers, and eggplant ends up feeling chewy and dry (at least it does when I cook it). If I were in the kitchen, I'd alleviate this problem by creating smaller slices, but thinly sliced vegetables don't play well with my backyard barbecue.

This mesh frying pan provides the perfect … Read more

Grill on the go without the fuss, or muss

The EZ Grill is a one-use grill, made entirely from recyclable materials and is entirely recyclable after you're done with dinner. When you open the EZ Grill box, you'll find a foil pan, a stand, a grill grate, and all natural instant charcoal. To get the grill going, you just need to light the corner of the starter sheet--it will burn for about 15 minutes, long enough to get the charcoal going so that you can grill vegetables and meat perfectly. There's no need to add lighter fluid or go through a lengthy process to get the … Read more

Cook up a storm without heating up the house

It may be official barbecue season and that may draw many of us outside to cook, but sometimes you just don't want to. As delicious as grilling may be, sometimes it is convenience we want. Problem is, cooking in the house can be just as time-consuming. If you are using more than the microwave to cook an entire meal, you usually have to turn on the oven. Which, in turn, heats up the kitchen. With the kitchen being uncomfortably hot, we are, once again, drawn outside. This cycle of cooking confusion can be brought to a halt with the … Read more
