$20,000 MP3 player: 18k, 63 diamonds

We've been shirking our responsibilities. It's been days since we highlighted some ridiculously priced (and exceedingly unnecessary) item. So we fulfill our obligation, at least for today, with the "TrekStor i.Beat Organix Gold" MP3 player seen on Uncrate, cast in 18k gold and studded with 63 diamonds. The price? Only $20,000. And if you play your cards right, you may even be able to get free shipping from Amazon.

Philips plasma with 2,200 diamonds

Finally, a TV that even Zsa Zsa Gabor would like.

To celebrate shipping 1 million of its "Ambilight" TVs, Philips took the millionth one of the line and inserted 2,200 diamonds from the DeBeers Company into the bezel. Ambilight, which adjusts the TV light level to suit the room, has been one of the more successful technologies in consumer electronics in the past few years for the Dutch giant.

The diamonds are swirled in the white part of the bezel. Plasma TVs of this size weigh about 300 pounds, and the Philips booth is located deep in … Read more

$842,000 cell phone strap

We try not to be too judgmental about luxury items here at Crave, being of the capitalistic ilk ourselves. But this is one example that even we find galling: a diamond-studded cell phone strap.

Renowned Japanese jewelry designer Diaddict has created a one-of-a-kind strap that boasts a 6.02-carat yellow diamond, .61-carat blue diamond, .36-carat pink diamond and 2.1 carats of white diamonds, according to Luxist. The price: 100 million yen, or about $842,000.

At that price, you'd be hard-pressed to find a phone that cost more than the strap, even if you were an Egyptian queen.… Read more

All-chrome BMW outshines rivals

After we posted the (faux) diamond-clad Mercedes last weekend, we were shocked to hear that some people thought it was a tad gaudy. So those seeking a more muted statement might find this more to their liking: a BMW covered in chrome.

The Canadian owner of said Beamer, an E46 M3, wasn't just into appearances either: According to Motor Authority, "He added a Flossman GTR-style wide body kit, supercharged the inline six motor to the tune of 600hp and then stacked the boot with an audio system that looks like it came out of a flying saucer." … Read more

The diamond-covered Mercedes

Saks Fifth Avenue should be ashamed of itself. As one of the premier purveyors of all things narcissistic, it probably thought it was impressing the world with its $160,000 Saks Special Edition Mercedes. To which we now say, meh.

That's because we've since witnessed this specimen of true excess, a Mercedes SL600 encrusted with diamonds from grille to tailpipe that Luxurylaunches saw at an overseas auto show. (Well, they're not real diamonds. That would be over the top, unlike this understated look.)

Real or not, you've got to admit they got your attention. We'd … Read more

This camera would get lost in Ft. Knox

Compared with MP3 players and cell phones, digital cameras are often left out of the fashion party. But Minox is out to show that cameras are people too. Or something like that.

The DC 1011 Carat is clad in 24k gold and has a lens that's ringed with 10 diamonds. True, they're small (.02 carats each), but the road to blingdom is a long one, and you've got to start somewhere.

The more boring among us might want to know that this is also a functioning camera, with 2.5-inch display and 32MB internal memory for photos … Read more
