You've heard me wax poetic about the excellent Archos 605 WiFi portable video player, and even its smaller brother, the Archos 405. Now we have the smallest addition to the family, the Archos 105. With a 1.8-inch screen, 2GB of storage, and a rock-bottom price tag of $89, the 105 is the most affordable player ever released by Archos. But is a low price and a big screen enough to make us squeal with delight? You'll have to take a look at our Archos 105 full review and First Look video to find out.

After awarding Apple's iPod Classic and iPod Nano an 8 out of 10 rating over on CNET Reviews, I think it's fair to say that I think both products are exceptional. Still, the iPod is not for everybody. If you're thinking about using that $100 iPhone credit toward a shiny new Nano or Classic, here are five reasons that might give you pause.

Requiring the latest version of iTunes might not seem like such a big deal, but if your computer doesn't play friendly with the latest build of iTunes--you're screwed. iTunes 7.4 requires OSX 10.3.9 or later for Mac users, and Windows XP or 32-bit editions of Windows Vista for the PC.

In a move that will surely delight Prince, the latest Archos 405 portable video player will apparently be available in purple at tomorrow's launch. The purple version will have the same price and 2GB capacity as its silver brother. Despite my suspicions, it will not smell like potpourri or grape Kool-Aid. As reported earlier, the new Archos PVPs are due out at the beginning of September. Archos announced its 2007 lineup of media player/recorders today at press events in both Europe and New York, introducing four new portable models as well as the company's first set-top DVR.

The big news--as reported earlier--is that the new Wi-Fi-enabled portables include direct access to an online "Content Portal" and offer a Flash-supported Web browser option. The portal offers pay-per-download CinemaNow movies--just use the touchscreen to pick the movie you want to buy and download it to the internal hard drive, no PC required. An Archos press event in France has revealed the new Archos line a mere hours before an event is scheduled to take place in the United States. Since neither I nor the folks at Engadget (I'm guessing) can be completely trusted with our French translation, I have relatively few details to confirm. I can tell you the company is launching a new flash player, the 2GB 105, as well as a revamped PVP line, including the 405, the 705, and the 605 WiFi.
