Cupertino mayor says city's ready for Apple HQ 2.0

In case there were any doubts about the city of Cupertino, Calif., being interested in Apple building its campus reboot there, city Mayor Gilbert Wong has put those fears to rest.

"Cupertino is ready for this," Wong said in a press conference held in Cupertino's City Hall lobby yesterday (video below). Wong followed up a reporter's question later on in the press conference, saying that there's "no chance we're saying no."

Lost in translation

My sister is a big fan of saying something unbelievably mean, followed by an immediate "Just kidding!" Sometimes the "Just kidding" doesn't come quickly enough. If I had the sarcasm algorithm built into my brain, it might really improve my sibling relationship.

It is funny how much meaning gets lost in translation on the Internet, especially when it comes to humor or levity. I was behind the idea of the SarcMarc, a new form of punctuation that conveys sarcasm. I just don't think people will upgrade their keyboard to use it.

A casual RPG that's one of the best for iPhone

Space Miner: Space Ore Bust takes the old arcade classic Asteroids and mixes in some RPG elements and a sense of humor to create a truly entertaining game. Macworld Expo 2010 started on Tuesday here in San Francisco, and will continue through tomorrow (Saturday) at the Moscone Center. Rocket phone ready for launch

For some reason, while phones with Star Wars themes fall clearly into the date-repellant category, retro sci-fi versions aren't nearly so abhorrent. Or maybe it's just a reflection of our depressingly advanced age.

Whatever the case, the "ZhenZhou VII" rocket mobile handset is pretty darn nifty. It's not exactly the most practical--you probably wouldn't want to carry it in your pocket, to avoid awkward social circumstances. But something that looks this novel shouldn't be concealed anyway, weapon or no weapon.
