It's a snap

We've reviewed our fair share of screenshot utilities in our time, and we can't say that it gets much easier than SnapaShot. This simple tool lets users easily capture exactly the portion of the screen that they want and save it in a variety of formats. While it's not the most feature-filled program we've ever seen, we think it's a great choice for basic screen capture tasks.

The program's interface is extremely common-sense; it consists of a frame that can be dragged around the screen and resized by dragging its borders. At the bottom … Read more

Get a Samsung DualView TL220 camera for $149

All digital cameras are created more or less equal, right? Not quite: the Samsung DualView TL220 has an extra ace up its sleeve--or, rather, an extra LCD.

Yep, this is the one you've heard about, the camera with the second, front-facing screen so you can easily snap self-portraits (and portraits of you and whatever celebrity you're able to cajole in front of the lens). It debuted late last year with a rather steep list price of $349.99.

Right now, Abe's of Maine has the Samsung DualView TL220 for $149 shipped. That, my friends, is what they … Read more

Capture that screen--David's iPhone tip of the week

Here's a feature you'll like for capturing screenshots on your iPhone. You can use it to capture displayed error messages, images, or practically anything you see on your iPhone's screen.

Even more interesting is the fact that when the app or screen you are in supports the zoom feature you can simply zoom to the desired depth, then trigger a screen snapshot using the same … Read more

Canon's new Selphy compact photo printer speaks volumes

Canon just added three new Pixma-branded printers and one Selphy standalone printer to its line of business and family-friendly devices. This debut also sees the materialization of Canon's new Auto Fix II technology that takes one-click touch-ups to the next level of clarity, correcting many common photos including underexposed pictures or low-light backdrops.

Only the Pixma MP990 ($300) and MP640 ($220) printers will include this new feature, but both are also set up to print wireless (the MP640 has a built-in print server), vibrant photos thanks to Canon's ChromaLife 100 ink system and the additional gray ink tank to enhance black and white snapshots.

Finally, the two Pixmas also include large LCD screens as well as Canon's Easy-Scroll Wheel, which we first enjoyed on the Canon PIXMA MP980.

The Pixma iX7000 business inkjet rounds out the Pixma offering and contains auto duplexing, three paper feed trays, an extra large paper input, and Ethernet connectivity--all of which could help small business increase their printing productivity. The iX7000 will retail at $400.… Read more

Bring thumbnails to life with SnapCasa

Ever wanted to post a screenshot or thumbnail of a Web site on your blog? Probably not. But if you're like us then this situation comes up all the time. Enter SnapCasa, a service that lets you drop in a preview of any site in one of three thumbnail sizes that will regularly update as time goes on. We debated using a service like this for this year's Webware 100 winner pages, but opted instead to use static images since seeing what Web services looked like years later can be kind of interesting (see Archive.org).

The tool … Read more

Trulia, Stamen team up for more eye candy for house hunters

Real estate search and resource service Trulia has a new tool built by the guys at Stamen Design called Snapshot. It's built off of Microsoft Virtual Earth and shows off little clusters of homes all over a 2D map. It's been pitched as an "alternate" view of the Trulia real estate listings, but a better way to describe it is pure, unadulterated eye candy.

That's not to say it's without use though. You can sort out houses in your area by price tag, or simply when they were listed. Each house has a little … Read more

Power Downloader makes a capture

Recently Power Downloader was working on a top-secret project, which required him to grab screenshots of Internet criminals off the Web. Some pages had individual shots of the criminal in question, while other sites showed multiple photos on a page. As he slogged through the Web pages, Power quickly began to realize that the method of pressing the Print Screen key to capture what's on the screen was pretty inefficient. Once you have the screenshot in the clipboard, you still have to paste it into another program, and then name it and save it. Power realized that, when you have a lot of images to deal with, using the Print Screen process can be downright frustrating.… Read more
