Droid Razr free at Best Buy today with new contract

Today is a sobering one for many Droid Razr owners like me. We're officially walking around with smartphones that are almost worthless, at least from the perspective of one major retailer.

Best Buy is letting go of the basic 16GB Droid Razr 4G LTE phone for free with a new Verizon contract for today only. I paid $199 for mine with the same strings attached about eight months ago.

If you're the kind of person who can live without the latest version of Android (the Razr comes with Gingerbread, but you should receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade … Read more

The unit posted an operating loss of $527 million, with the vast majority of that loss coming from its embattled handset division. A year ago, the unit posted an operating loss of $41 million.

Excluding one-time items, Motorola posted an operating loss of $151 million.

Revenue, meanwhile, fell 14 percent to $2.58 billion. Unsurprisingly, the handset division was to … Read more

A check of Motorola's German Web pages by blog site Areamobile found only three smartphones currently up for sale -- the Razr, the Razr i, and the Gleam HD +.

A search by Mueller turned up the same results, with no other phones or tablets available online for German customers. A link … Read more
