Sony mum on PlayStation Vita price drops for U.S., Europe

Sony breathed new life into its PlayStation Vita portable alongside the introduction of the PlayStation 4 today.

The gist of the news: The Vita can be used as a full screen and controller for your PS4, similar to what Nintendo's done with the Wii U. The idea is that you can continue to play a game on the PS4 through your Vita, even if someone needs to use the TV for something else. Microsoft quietly raises price of Office for Mac by 17 percent

Microsoft has quietly increased the prices of its Office for Mac 2011 by as much as 17 percent, putting it on price par with Office 2013 for Windows.

The software giant has also quit selling multi-license packages, which allowed customers to purchase multiple copies of the application suite at a discounted rate.

The single-license Office for Mac Home & Student now costs $140, an increase of about 17 percent from the previous price of $120. Meanwhile, Microsoft raised the price of Office for Mac Home & Business, which includes Outlook, to $220, a 10 percent increase over the previous $200 … Read more

Apple, Microsoft summoned in Australian pricing probe

Apple, Microsoft, and Adobe Systems have been summoned by Australian lawmakers to explain why consumers pay more for IT products Down Under than in other countries.

The Australian Parliament's House Committee on Infrastructure and Communications said Monday that it wants the companies to appear before the committee as part of an ongoing probe regarding disparity between prices charged in Australia and in overseas markets.

"The Committee is looking at the impacts of prices charged to Australian consumers for IT products -- Australian consumers often pay much higher prices for hardware and software than people in other countries," … Read more

Sprint CEO: No changes in smartphone pricing expected

Sprint Nextel won't be abandoning its unlimited data plan or current pricing structure any time soon.

The company isn't considering any changes to its current offering, CEO Dan Hesse said during a conference call with investors today.

"We always reserve the right to make changes, but we are not anticipating any," Hesse said.
