Cool tees for shutterbugs

I already own a couple of camera/photography-related tees, and I have to say they are some of my favorite wear. But looking at the roundup of such clothing put together by PetaPixel makes me want to hit the links and get even more.

My favorite of the 21 shirts in the collection has to be the above "oh, crop" design, which takes a leaf out of Adobe Photoshop's crop tool. The camera display panel shirt looks pretty awesome, too, and I'm still trying to figure out which dSLR display it copies. Of course, there are … Read more

Photography can cause undue stress and madness

Here's a funny video clip by two photographers in Colombia, South America. Taking a jab at some of the gearheads who troll Digital Photography Review's forums, one of them portrayed a delirious photographer who is crazy about aligning his lens just because "the professionals on DPreview said so." He also spent two days looking for a dead pixel in his camera and has deleted his entire catalog of photos because of that.

Do note that this is just a parody done by the duo to poke fun at shutterbugs who are crazy about their photo equipment, … Read more

Simple image converter

RawExtractor is a basic program that allows users to convert files from raw to JPEG. Although it doesn't have many features, the program's simple interface and quick results make it a great choice for users seeking an efficient way to convert files.

The program's interface is sleek and uncluttered, and it's quite obvious what users need to do to get started. Camera Comparison

I decided to take a few shots with both my iPhone 3G and the Palm Pre to give a good idea of how the cameras stack up. The iPhone 3G has a 2 megapixel sensor with fixed focus (the new iPhone 3GS greatly improves on this with 3 megapixels and autofocus) and the Pre serves up 3 megapixels also with fixed focus.

While the Pre's photos are obviously higher resolution and seem sharper at times, the iPhone is much better at processing color, brightness and contrast. The Pre wins points however for having a much faster camera, both in starting the application and snapping photos.

Check out the comparison shots after the jump.… Read more

Be a gunslinger with BlackRapid's Double Strap

The BlackRapid R-Strap won the hearts of many photographers by offering a quick and easy way to access a camera slung across the body. Now the company has devised the RS DR-1 Double Strap, which lets you sling two shooters just like the cowboys of the Wild West.

The harness sits on the user's shoulders and the camera straps extend to both sides of the body. You'll have to use the FastenR-2 module (which is provided) to hook your cameras to the strap.

For photojournalists who shoot with two dSLRs with different lenses attached, the Double Strap is … Read more

Visually impaired photogs display mind-boggling shots

Twelve visually impaired artists, a few of whom are totally blind, recently showed some amazing images as part of an exhibit called Sight Unseen at the University of California at Riverside.

The shots they took are inspiring, considering that most won't know where the camera lens is pointing. Rosita McKenzie said she could be experimental as she can't see. Her method was to sense the light on her face (possibly from the heat radiated by the light source), hear the rustle of the wind, or use her sense of smell to identify fragrances in the air to get … Read more

Photographer's Math adds up to laughs

A shutterbug friend once told me photographers cannot do math to save their lives. The only algorithms they can churn out are shutter speed ratio and aperture ratios, or the required resolution for different print sizes. However, blog site Photographer's Math may just prove my friend wrong.

What is the equation for a nature photographer? The writer of this blog thinks it's a hunter minus the guns, plus lenses. A monopod is conveniently seen as a tripod divided by three. Paparazzi equals a portrait photographer minus consent.

This blog, updated daily, provides much laughter (if you are a … Read more

Epson's new line of printers for small-business owners

Monday marked a milestone for Epson printers, as the company revealed a new line of all-in-one and photo printers designed for the small- to medium-size business consumer.

Judging from the initial pictures, the WorkForce 600, the new line's flagship model, appears to have a comprehensive set of buttons on the faceplate surrounding its 2.5-inch LCD screen.
