Apple CEO: We rejected DOJ settlement in e-book suit

As the chief of the last company standing in the upcoming lawsuit over e-book price fixing, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Tuesday that the company never had any plans to settle with the government.

"We're not going to sign something that says we did something that we didn't do, so we're going to fight," Cook said during an interview at the D11 conference on Tuesday.

Apple has acquired nine companies since October

Apple's been buying a new company every month or two, giving the company nine acquisitions since October, CEO Tim Cook said Tuesday at the All Things Digital Conference in Southern California.

The company has only announced the acquisitions it's required to, according to Cook.

"We are always looking and if anything we will do more of that in the future," he said of buying other companies.

Apple CEO Tim Cook denied that the company was exploiting the tax system to shortchange the United States Treasury and gently chided critics who believe companies that ought to pay taxes to Uncle Sam for products developed here but sold overseas.

Apple names former EPA admin as environmental officer

Apple's hired a new top level executive to oversee its environmental efforts.

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday announced that the company's hired Lisa Jackson, the former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to guide its environmental footprint.

Cook, who dropped the news during an on-stage interview at the D11 conference, noted that he didn't know Jackson's formal title, but that she'd be reporting directly to him and would be coordinating "environmental efforts" across the company. CNET has reached out to Apple for more information.

Apple has sold more than 13 million Apple TV devices, and half of those set-top box devices were sold last year, CEO Tim Cook said Tuesday evening at the All Things Digital Conference in Southern California.
