What the experts think
Brian Cooley Adam's instincts are good, but because he really loves the outdoors, we really need to lighten his load. First, two-way radios now support up to a 10-mile range and come with more sophisticated weather-report systems. Rather than a portable DVD player, Adam's family might be better served with a portable video player (PVP), which is smaller, has better battery life, and can also store music, TV shows, movies, and even audiobooks.

Why I need this makeover
Adam Shields We are going on our first trip with our new foster children (11- and 12-year-old boys). They have never been more than 3 hours away from home and never camping. We can't afford a ton of new tech, but we would make good use of the equipment.

What the panels' eyes
CNET Five Adam is clearly in need of our help and expertise. This man loves technology and knows how it fits his lifestyle, but he would get lost in an electronics store even if he had a top-of-the-line GPS device directing him to the perfect product.
