Like a smart shopper, Dominique consults the experts before choosing her equipment. She has the right notion of what she needs--but we'd toss in a photo printer, a portable storage device for her photos so that she doesn't have to schlepp her laptop on vacation, and a larger media card.
I'm finally going away to college next year. My gear is so bad that I'm debating whether to pretend I'm Amish so that I can pretend it has to do with the evils of technology. In short, I'm desperate. Pitiful and desperate. Plus, I look great with a camera in one hand and a laptop under my arm.
No one should own technology older than they are (even though a good manual film SLR like her 30-year-old Canon never really goes out of style). We don't want to see Dominique head off to college in a horse and buggy. If she wins our makeover, Dominique's dorm mates will be grateful to us for providing her with the components of a high-tech overachiever.
