Turn a computer monitor into a TV

If there's an extra computer monitor stashed in your closet, it's time to wipe off the dust. We'll show you how to convert it into a TV that takes the PC out of the equation.

Why you should convert your spare computer monitor into a TV.

What the editors say
1

Save money.

Flat-panel TVs are a lot less expensive than they were a few years ago, but with even the most basic, 15-inch LCD models starting at around $300, they're still not exactly cheap. For less than $150, you can easily convert your old flat-panel computer monitor into a thin-screen TV that's equally capable. In fact, any computer monitor, including bulky CRT models, will do just fine.

2

It works without a computer.

You don't need a computer to watch TV and DVDs on a computer monitor. All you need is a simple box that gives your monitor the same inputs as a standard TV.

3

Be kind to Mother Earth, brother.

We're not suggesting that you avoid showering and chain yourself to a tree, but conserving resources is an admirable objective. Save that old computer monitor from becoming toxic compost by giving it a new purpose in life: dulling your brain with the best that Hollywood has to offer.
