Connect high-def to your HDTV

Just having a new HDTV doesn't mean you're watching HDTV. High-def channels are a separate animal entirely from the standard television channels you're used to. We'll show you how to hook your HDTV up with some serious detail.

Why you should connect high-def to your HDTV

What the editors say
1

Realize your HDTV's potential.

Regular television is to HDTV as a Big Wheel is to an X-wing, but if you want to fly with Luke Skywalker, you'll need more than just a big HDTV. You'll need the high-def sources and channels that'll finally put that big screen through its paces.

2

It's cheaper than you think.

Yes, you paid big money for that big HDTV. But if it has a built-in tuner, a $30 antenna is often enough to tune in free local high-def broadcasts. If not, your cable company will usually charge as little as $10 per month for a high-def package and box.

3

Standard-def just doesn't cut it.

If you have a big-screen HDTV, then you already know the ugly truth: good ol' standard-definition television programming expanded to 60 inches looks like a train wreck. Do your eyes a favor and treat them to some actual HDTV.
