Digital in Detroit: new cars make us forget PCs Back to intro

Michelin has rethought the airless tire and come up with the Tweel. It uses a series of interlaced fiber veins where the air chamber is on a normal tire. The company says the feel and handling are very close to those of the radials on your drive today. The Tweel is already being used on the iBot from Dean Kamen, the guy who invented the Segway. More testing is needed before it's ready for freeway speeds, but it may be on passenger cars in 5 to 15 years.
