CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
BenQ goes mad with its
seven-arm LCD

January 14, 2005; 3:36 p.m.
BenQ Crazy Arm LCD
BenQ Crazy Arm LCD
The product: Sure, it looks like it's some top-secret prototype from the year 2050, but despite its futuristic looks, this 19-inch LCD is a lot more practical than it appears. The 19-inch Crazy Arm LCD (that's really its name) features seven tentacle-like arms that connect to the LCD via USB. The arms are flexible and are intended to suit your personal needs. Each of the arms is removable and can be used for various purposes, such as:
  • Webcam
  • Media-card reader
  • Note holder
  • Speaker
  • Night-light
  • Fan
  • Rearview mirror
The prospects: Though it looks like it was designed by Dr. Octopus himself, we like BenQ's concept, and we were especially glad to hear that BenQ plans to release the Crazy Arm in the United States sometime in Q2 of 2005.
